    Worcestershire have bowled out Lancashire for 242 at Old Trafford to win their one-day cup match by 125 runs.

    West Midlands Police has been given £6m this year by the government to tackle rising levels of knife crime, according to the force's police and crime commissioner , external(PCC).

    In March, the Chancellor Philip Hammond promised forces in England and Wales an extra £100m to tackle the "epidemic".

    Today, the West Midlands PCC David Jamison says £6m is their slice of the total and it'll be used to pay current officers to do more overtime.

    Figures published by the police showed in the year up to September in the West Midlands, there were 3,108 offences recorded, a rise of 19% on the year before and almost double the number recorded in 2013.

    Police officers searching the River Severn in Shrewsbury for 33-year-old Ashley Atkins say they have found a body.

    West Mercia Police said formal identification has not yet taken place, but Mr Atkins's next of kin have been informed.

  5. Man airlifted to hospital after three-vehicle crashpublished at 17:31 British Summer Time 17 April 2019

    A man's been flown to hospital after a crash at Draycott-in-the-Moors in Staffordshire earlier today.

    The 24-year-old was in a collision involving a motorbike, a van and a lorry on Cheadle Road at around 13:00.

    Two men who were arrested after a car went into the River Severn in Shrewsbury have been released by the police on bail.

    They had been questioned on suspicion of conspiracy to commit burglary.

    A hoard of Roman coins is going to be bought by Warwickshire County Council. after a successful appeal to raise £62,000.

    The 440 silver denarii coins were discovered during an archaeological dig at a Roman site at Edge Hill in 2015 and the council now plans to put them on display at the Market Hall museum in Warwick this summer.

    They were found in a ceramic pot under the floor of a building and 78 of the coins are believed to be very rare, dating back to 68-69 AD, a period of Roman history known as the "Year of the Four Emperors".

    The authority said very few of these coins from this time have survived.

    A grant of £30,000 from the V&A museum and another £14,000 from the Art Fund made up the bulk of the money, with the rest of the money coming from fundraising efforts and supporters of the museum service.

    A van belonging to Severn Hospice is off the road after being badly damaged in a break-in.

    The hospice said it was targeted by thieves on Tuesday night and it had to cancel a number of donation pick-ups as a result.

    The van is used by the hospice's furniture store in Shrewsbury and it said staff were "gutted to find the mess that had been made".

    A set of railway crossing gates are being returned to Jackfield today, after a year-long operation to restore them.

    The work has been carried out by the Coalbrookdale-based Small Woods Association and each gate measures 38ft (11.5m).

    Telford and Wrekin Council says the gates will be under a temporary shelter for a couple of weeks, while they are painted and assembled, before they are lifted into place next month.

    Coventry City could be forced to make cutbacks if they leave the Ricoh stadium, a university academic has warned.

    Kieran McGuire, a football finance expert from the University of Liverpool, warned, "matchday income will fall significantly" if the club is forced to play elsewhere, because it can't agree a deal with the stadium's owners.

    Mr Maguire also said "the club will have to make cutbacks and the sad thing is that people are potentially going to lose jobs. Not necessarily on the playing side, but on the administrative and support side."

    The club is still searching for a home for next season, after its deal with Wasps expires, and has been warned it could be expelled from the Football League if a solution can't be found.

    David Preston, who has served the town council in a variety of roles for 44 years, is being replaced by his deputy Arren Roberts (pictured below) in July.

  16. Knife Angel to extend stay in citypublished at 15:12 British Summer Time 17 April 2019

    The giant Knife Angel sculpture is going to be extending its stay in Coventry until 7 May.

    It's been standing outside the city's cathedral, to raise awareness of knife crime and was originally meant to be there until 23 April.

    The 26-foot-high (8m) sculpture is made out of 100,000 blades which had either been confiscated or surrendered to police forces around the country.

    It was made at the British Ironworks Centre at Oswestry and has also been on display in Hull and Liverpool.

    A union trying to support former workers at a 200-year-old pottery manufacturer says there may not be enough jobs available for them to continue working in the same industry.

    Dudson, in Stoke-on-Trent, has been making tableware, glassware and fine china since 1800, but collapsed earlier this month, putting more than 300 staff out of work.

    A jobs fair in Tunstall has allowed some to find work but the GMB union says it won't be easy to keep them all working in the ceramics industry.
