The Midland Metropolitan Hospital in Smethwick was left two-thirds finished after the collapse of construction company Carillion in January last year.

Work resumed at the site last summer after the government pledged £300m of funding.

Construction was due to be completed in October 2018, but the trust has since said the hospital will not be open until 2022.

Now, a Birmingham City Council committee has backed plans to redraw the boundaries of a local NHS clinical commissioning group to create a new body covering the whole of Birmingham and Solihull.

It'll now go to the local authority's cabinet for a final decision, but the Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust said the move could delay the signing of a contract to resume construction of the hospital to July.
