  1. Baby movement bracelet aims to reduce stillbirthspublished at 18:27 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    BBC Midlands Today

Thousands of pregnant women in Shropshire are to be given bracelets to record their baby's movements in the hope of reducing stillbirths.

    The bracelet being worn

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) says there are 14 beads on it and expectant mums move a small hoop around each of them when they feel movement., external

By doing that, the trust says they should find it easier to track their baby's movement pattern, know when to expect movement and report any concerns earlier.

It comes as the county's hospitals are being investigated over avoidable baby deaths since 1998.

Last month, NHS Improvement said it had asked for details of hundreds more cases but they were not necessarily the result of sub-standard care.

  15. Club to keep licence after man's deathpublished at 15:56 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Local Democracy Reporting Service

A Birmingham night club is to keep its operating licence following a man’s death last month, as councillors were told it is not one of Birmingham’s "drug clubs".

    BambuImage source, Google

At a full review of Bambu, on Wrottesley Street earlier councillors heard there had been a "significant turnaround" in the running of the club.

It was also explained to councillors sitting on the licensing sub-committee that "drug consumption is changing" making it harder to detect.

Whilst at the scene of the death on 10 June, police discovered extensive evidence of drug-taking, including bags of white powder, empty "dealer bags", and an empty box which had contained nitrous oxide canisters.

The council initially suspended Bambu’s licence only to lift the sanction at a subsequent hearing when a raft of new temporary measures were proposed including stepping up security, staff training, drug checks and installing a defibrillator.

Today’s decision means they can continue to trade with the interim measures now made permanent.
