    Bojan Krkic is being allowed to leave Stoke City and manager Nathan Jones said he didn't try to force the forward out.

    The former Barcelona youth star joined Stoke in 2014, but fell out of favour and has been playing on loan at Mainz in Germany and Alaves in Spain in recent seasons.

    Jones said: "We've sat down and we've both stated what we wanted to do and then shook hands and felt that it was better for both parties that he went elsewhere and played his football elsewhere and that was a joint decision."

    He added: "I feel he needs a change, I think he will be better for that, he does also."

    A man in his 50s is being treated for a serious head injury after an attack in the Longton area of Stoke-on-Trent yesterday evening.

    Staffordshire Police said he was assaulted on King Street at about 17:20 and his condition in hospital has been described as stable.

    Two women and three men were arrested and police are continuing to question them on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm.

    We told you earlier about figures suggesting the amount of trees being planted needs to more than double to combat rising temperatures.

    Between 2010 and 2018, the government funded about 15 million trees in England.

    Valet parking could be one of the first types of automated driving to be widely adopted, according to the company behind the UK's first test centre for self-driving parking.

    Work on the site is under way in Nuneaton.

    As part of the project, engineering firm Horiba Mira will work in partnership with Coventry University on the Trusted Autonomous Parking (Park-IT) scheme.

    The test facility will include a multi-storey car park, on-road parking bays and parking lot environments.

  8. MP aims to persuade Scots to remain in the UKpublished at 17:30 British Summer Time 30 July 2019

    The MP for Worcester, Robin Walker, has said he wants to persuade people in Scotland that they're better off remaining in the UK.

    He's been made a junior minister for Scotland and Northern Ireland in Boris Johnson's new cabinet and said: "Making the case for the union is a really exciting one."

    In the meantime, there's a union in which his prime minister is less keen to remain.

    Mr Walker is moving from the Department for Exiting the European Union and said he saw Brexit as "a national challenge".

    The Nantwich Show has been cancelled at the last minute because of wet weather.

    The organisers of the agricultural event said it had been "a very hard decision to make", but said the site had become unsafe for vehicles to enter, with some areas left "totally inaccessible".

    The International Cheese Awards are still going ahead and will be held in the Pavilion.

  10. Cash stolen in attack on security guardpublished at 17:11 British Summer Time 30 July 2019

    A security guard was attacked and had a cash box stolen during a robbery at a One Stop store in Coventry.

    It happened at One Stop on Parkhill Drive on 25 July shortly after 06:00.

    It's believed the suspect left in a car heading towards Lower Eastern Green Lane.

    Officers are keen to trace the driver of a small white van and a dog walker who were both in the vicinity of the shop at the time.

  11. Minor injuries unit to remain closedpublished at 17:00 British Summer Time 30 July 2019

    Leominster's minor injuries unit is going to remain closed this week because of "staffing issues", Wye Valley NHS Trust says.

    It announced on Friday it would close for one day.

    Patients are advised to phone NHS 111 or visit their local pharmacy for medical advice.

    Masked men stabbed a pedestrian on the canal path in Rugby yesterday, police say.

    His phone and wallet were stolen during the attack which happened at about 16:10 near Old Leicester Road.

    The victim, in his 20s, was taken to hospital but wasn't seriously hurt.

    Officers thanked people from the local travelling community and nearby security guards who came to the aid of the victim.

    Shops, a hotel and new homes could be developed at the Martineau Galleries site in Birmingham's Dale End.

    An application to develop the site by Hammerson, the group which owns and manages the Bullring and Grand Central, is to go before the city council.

    The firm says the development could create 8,000 jobs and bring a £225m boost to Birmingham's economy.

    Trialist Christian Mbulu appears to have moved a step closer to landing a deal with Crewe Alexandra, because of injuries to defenders.

    The club could be without both Olly Lancashire and Nicky Hunt who have been hurt in pre-season.

  16. Fuel spillage closes Shropshire roadpublished at 15:13 British Summer Time 30 July 2019

    The A49 in Bayston Hill, Shropshire, is closed due to an earlier crash and fuel spillage.

    It's closed in both directions from the A5 Dobbies Island to B4371, Sandford Avenue.

    It's expected to be closed for some time for road cleaning.

    A new cycle scheme has been launched in Hereford in the hope of tackling congestion.

    Users of the Beryl Bikes must download an app to use them - they're available for hire at locations around the city.

    More than 70 bikes can be picked up and dropped off in marked bays, which will be positioned at key attractions.

    Organisers plan for 150 eventually.
