    Two people have been arrested after a man was stabbed during disorder in Leamington Spa.

    The victim was taken to hospital with leg and chest injuries, although they are not thought to be life-changing, Warwickshire Police said.

    Officers were called to Ranelagh Terrace in the town in the early hours of Sunday.

    A 25-year-old man has been bailed and another aged 26 released under investigation, the force said.

    A cow's been rescued by firefighters after being stuck up to its neck in "very deep mud, external".

    They were called to a field in Mobberley, near Tean, Staffordshire, yesterday afternoon.

    Specialist equipment along with a tractor were used to release the cow which was checked by a vet and said to be recovering afterwards., external

  4. Man jailed for raping girl in alleywaypublished at 13:01 British Summer Time 14 October 2019

    A man has been jailed after pleading guilty to raping a 14-year-old girl in an alleyway.

    The attack happened off Overslade Lane, in Rugby, at about 19:45 on 17 July.

    Mujdat Altuntas, of Edmund Road, Coventry, pleaded guilty in August to rape of a child and sexual assault of a child over 13.

    He was given a nine-year extended sentence at Warwick Crown Court with five years and three months served in prison and the rest on licence.

    The 28-year-old was also given a sexual harm prevention order for 22 years and given an indefinite restraining order preventing him from contacting the victim.

    Crewe Alexandra football club's majority shareholder has agreed to sell his stake in the club.

    Norman Hassall has held 51% of the shares since 2006, but will now sell them to a group of local business owners and investors.

    The Alex have issued a statement, external saying the move will mean no single shareholder will own more than 12.5% of shares.

    Described as a "club legend", Yapp won 70 caps while she was at Worcester and appeared in three World Cups, captaining England in the 2006 competition.

    After coaching England Under-20s, she's recently returned to Sixways as skills coach and succeeds Roy Davies in the role with immediate effect.

    Shrewsbury MP Daniel Kawczynski has been on the BBC's Victoria Derbyshire programme this morning ahead of the state opening of Parliament.

    Politicians were facing questions from a small studio audience.

    But Mr Kawczynski immediately faced a backlash about claims regarding the nation's finances.

    Speaking during the programme, Mr Kawczynski defended the government's record in recent years, the need for the country to "live within its means" and said: "Now we are running a balanced budget we can start to increase funding, but you have to have a sound economic structure."

    But according to our colleagues at BBC Reality Check said suggestions that we are running a balanced budget are "not true".

    Last week's Green Budget from the IFS suggests it's not likely to be true for several years, even assuming a smooth Brexit process.

  9. Thieves target elderly in series of 'nasty' burglariespublished at 11:54 British Summer Time 14 October 2019

    The homes of elderly people in the Black Country have been targeted in a series of "nasty" burglaries, police said.

    Three men, said to be in their 30s or 40s, forced entry to at least five homes on the hunt for cash and jewellery.

    In one incident, a deaf man was threatened with a brick before the offenders barged into his home in Amblecote, Stourbridge on Saturday.

    Offenders later broke into an 89-year-old woman’s house in Dudley before stealing her purse – and also on Saturday an 84-year-old man was sprayed in the face with a substance after men kicked open the door to his Bilston home.

    One elderly female victim was taken to hospital after suffering a suspected heart attack due to the shock of what happened, said West Midlands Police.

    Offences have been reported in Dudley and Wolverhampton and follow similar incidents last week in Walsall.

  12. Homeless to get quicker mental health treatmentpublished at 11:16 British Summer Time 14 October 2019

    Rough sleepers in Birmingham are to get swifter access to mental health treatment, NHS England has pledged.

    New funding has been used to hire specialist staff trained in dealing with trauma, it said.

    Seven areas, Birmingham, Hull, Brighton, Lincoln, Luton, Lambeth and Haringey, are due to benefit once the services go live after Christmas.

    It is hoped the programme can build relationships between staff and rough sleepers, with NHS workers attending therapy sessions and doctor appointments, as well as providing a point of contact.

    A man's died in a motorcycle crash in Worcester.

    Police were called on Saturday morning to the A449, external between the Six Ways roundabout and the Blackpole exit.

    They found the body of the man, who was in his 20s, on the grass verge along with a damaged motorcycle nearby.

    Officers have called for any witnesses to come forward.

    Part of Telford is still being searched by police this morning after reports of a woman being threatened with a knife in an incident which the force believes is domestic-related.

    Officers cordoned off part of Hadley Road and are searching the area to find the suspect.

    Three people were taken to hospital after emergency services were called to reports of a mass brawl at a wedding in Wolverhampton.

    The ambulance service said it received nine emergency calls to the incident at the Park Hall Ramada at about 21:30 on Saturday and deployed about a dozen staff.

    A teenage girl, who had been working at the event, was taken to hospital along with two men in their 20s.

    A man in his 40s, who had also been injured, chose not to go to hospital, against advice.

    No one has reported being assaulted, West Midlands Police said.

    A hearing into the legality of an injunction barring parents from protesting outside a school in Birmingham will begin later.

    Hundreds of mainly Muslim campaigners demonstrated against the teaching of LGBT relationships outside Anderton Park Primary School for months earlier this year.

    A High Court injunction against the protests was quashed in June, but a temporary order was sought by Birmingham City Council to prevent demonstrations outside the school gates until this hearing.
