    A man has died after being hit by a vehicle in Wolverhampton.

    The pedestrian was struck by a 4x4 at the junction of Crowther Road and Tettenhall Road at about 22:25 on Sunday.

    West Midlands Ambulance Service said workers arrived at the scene to find police officers and an off-duty medical team performing CPR on the patient, but "sadly" he was confirmed dead at the scene.

    Dan Evans will become the British number one for the first time today and he thinks his world ranking of 43 "can get a lot higher".

    Evans, 29, takes over from Kyle Edmund, 18 months after being unranked as he returned from a drugs ban.

    The Lawn Tennis Association says 13 men, including Andy Murray and Tim Henman, have been British number one since rankings were introduced in 1973.

    "It's a privilege to be part of those sort of conversations," said Evans.

    Police are searching for a man in Telford after being called to reports of a woman being threatened with a knife.

    The woman has been taken to hospital, but her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening, West Mercia Police said.

    An area of Hadley Road, near Hartshill, has been cordoned-off, after the incident at about 6:15.

    Searches of the local area are being carried out to find the suspect.

    A man was taken to hospital after a van hit a bike in Hereford.

    Emergency services were called to the junction of Chestnut Drive and Holme Lacy Road at about 20:20 on Saturday.

    The man was taken to hospital with injuries not thought to be life threatening, said West Mercia Police.

  6. Fourth arrest after diner stabbedpublished at 08:38 British Summer Time 14 October 2019

    A fourth person has been arrested following a stabbing that left a man seriously injured.

    Officers believe the victim, 33, had been at a restaurant near Tile Hill Lane in Coventry when he was attacked by a group armed with knives and bats when he left to get something from his car.

    A 19-year-old from Canley was arrested after officers intercepted a car on the A444 on Saturday night, and is being questioned on suspicion of attempted murder.

    A 33-year-old man, arrested on suspicion of attempted murder has been recalled to prison.

    Another, aged 28, arrested on the suspicion of the same charge, has been bailed, said West Midlands Police.

    A 24-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender has been released under investigation.

    Parts of the West Midlands could face flooding as heavy rain moves across the region.

    The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning , externalfor between 12:00 and midnight.

    The Met Office said the wet weather will move northwards across much of England on Monday, with the heaviest rain forecast for the afternoon and evening.

    Flood alerts have been issued, external in Warwickshire, Herefordshire and Shropshire.

    Joe Fraser won his first World Gymnastics Championships gold medal with a stunning victory in the men's parallel bars.

    It is the first time a British gymnast has ever won a medal in the discipline.

    The Birmingham gynmast, the youngest competitor in the event at 20 years old, recorded a score of 15.000 in Stuttgart, Germany to secure his maiden world medal.

  9. Four miles of queuing traffic on M5published at 07:56 British Summer Time 14 October 2019

    A broken-down van is causing congestion through roadworks on the M5 southbound.

    Recovery work is under way with one lane closed from J1 to J2 at the Oldbury viaduct stretch.

    There's four miles of queuing traffic in the area, said Highways England.

    A broken-down train between Stoke-on-Trent and Macclesfield is blocking rail lines.

    CrossCountry services out of Birmingham News Street are being affected as well as Virgin Trains between London Euston and Manchester Picadilly.

    Disruption is expected until 10:00 said Network Rail.

    The mother of a 15-year-old school boy who was stabbed to death has described the horror of finding her son dying in the street near their home.

    Kelly Ellitts's son Keelan Wilson was attacked in Wolverhampton in May 2018.

    Nine teenagers have been questioned by police, but no-one has been charged.

  12. Birmingham Run cut short over safety threatpublished at 07:21 British Summer Time 14 October 2019

    The organisers of a half-marathon have apologised to participants after it was cut short.

    About 11,000 runners at the Great Birmingham Run were told wet weather had forced organisers to reduce the distance by a mile.

    The people behind the run later said changes were made over a safety threat.

    The Great Run said in a statement the route was reduced after consultation with police to avoid Cannon Hill Park and Edgbaston.

    "We can assure participants and spectators that their safety was not compromised at any point," the spokesperson added.
