X-ray baggage scanners and detectors to be installed at prisonpublished at 10:40 Greenwich Mean Time 4 November 2019
X-ray baggage scanners and metal detectors will be used to search visitors and staff entering HMP Hewell.
The new security measures are expected to be in place by spring next year.
The prison, near Redditch, is among a few selected to implement the new security measures.
The measures form part of a government package to stop drugs, phones and weapons being smuggled behind bars.
Earlier this year the HM Inspectorate of Prisons (HMIP) said 70% of inmates claimed drugs were easy to obtain at the prison, with a quarter of inmates developing drug habits.
