    Plans for a brewery and taproom at the Diglis Basin Marina, in Worcester, have been given planning approval by councillors.

    It will involve the conversion of a boathouse which has been empty for a number of years, creating several new jobs.

    Volunteers have been at Leamington Spa Gurdwara since about 05:00 preparing the Langar, or free food, which will be offered to all visitors today.

    Thousands of visitors are expected for the Sikh festival celebrating 550 years since the birth of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

    The Times says it has seen a leaked review of the HS2 rail project, external, which says the scheme should go ahead despite the estimated cost now hitting £88bn.

    The first phase of the high-speed railway between London and Birmingham through Warwickshire was due to open at the end of 2026, but it could now be delayed.

    The document says the project is "not affordable" within the £56bn budget set in the 2015 spending review and warns the new £88bn estimate is likely to be revised upwards again.

    It also says the benefit to taxpayers has been cut from £2.30 for every £1 spent in 2017, to between £1.30 and £1.50 for every £1 spent this year.

    However, the Times says the report claims without HS2, "large ticket price rises" would be needed to discourage travel at peak times on existing routes.

  4. Teenage boy seriously injured in stabbingpublished at 10:38 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2019

    A teenager suffered serious stab wounds during an attack in Birmingham on Monday.

    The 15-year-old boy remains in hospital in a stable condition after being found at the junction of Beech Road and Sycamore Road, in Erdington, at about 20:00 GMT.

    Another 15-year-old boy was arrested during the early hours on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody, said West Midlands Police. , external

    Det Sgt Simon Hanlon, from the force, said: "We know a number of people were involved and that the attack may have taken place in a nearby park."

    The force is appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

    Conservative members in the Burton constituency will vote again on whether to keep Andrew Griffiths as their candidate.

    More than 200 people voted last night. But the vote was tied, so he'll go up against two other candidates later.

    Mr Griffiths had been the MP since 2010, but concerns were raised after he sent sexual messages to two barmaids, even though he has been cleared of wrongdoing by the parliamentary standards watchdog.

    Network Rail says it's saddened after graffiti appeared on the recently refurbished Dana railway foot-bridge in Shrewsbury.

    The walkway, which leads to the train station, only reopened last week after 11 months of work.

    Black spray paint appeared on the grade two listed bridge over the weekend and Network Rail is looking at CCTV footage.

    Five incidents when a man exposed himself to schoolgirls in Birmingham are being investigated, police say., external

    The girls were approached by a man in a car as they were walking to or from school in the Small Heath area between 7 and 25 October.

    A 49-year-old man arrested in relation to the investigation has been released on police bail, said West Midlands Police.

    Today is one of the most important for Sikhs across the West Midlands.

    Sikhs all over the world are celebrating 550 years since the birth of Guru Nanak Dev Ji in the Punjab region of India and Pakistan.

    Preparations for the festival are under way at Leamington Spa Gurdawara, one of the largest in the country.

    About 5,000 people are expected throughout the day to pay their respects, pray, eat and enjoy the fireworks display later.

    Coventry City, winners in 1987, could face 1978 winners Ipswich Town in the second round of the FA Cup.

    Walsall will take on League One Oxford United if they win their replay at Darlington next week.

    If Stourbridge win their replay at Eastleigh they'll be at home to Crewe from League Two, while Solihull Moors entertain League One side Rotherham.

    Shrewsbury or Bradford City have been drawn at home against Mansfield in the next round, depending on who wins their replay a week today.

    Port Vale have been drawn away at Swindon or Cheltenham.

    There's currently three miles of queuing traffic on the M42 northbound in Worcestershire after an earlier crash.

    Congestion is around two miles before the M5 link road.

    The crash involving a van happened between J1 and J2 with all lanes now reopened.

    A signalling fault is delaying rail services between Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton.

    All lines are blocked and delays are expected until 09:00, said West Midlands Railway.

    A coroner said she will write to all UK theme parks following the death of a girl who drowned while on a school trip.

    Evha Jannath was unsupervised on the Splash Canyon ride at Drayton Manor in Tamworth, Staffordshire, when she died on 9 May 2017.

    An inquest jury at Stafford Coroner's Court has concluded she died accidentally.

    The theme park told assistant coroner Margaret Jones the ride would not reopen "in the current format" and until it had the consent of the Health and Safety Executive.

    The coroner said she will write to all UK theme parks urging them to conduct CCTV training.
