    Swans affected by an oil spill caused by the severe floods in South Yorkshire are being cleaned and cared for at a wildlife centre in Nantwich, Cheshire.

    The RSPCA facility at Stapeley Grange said it had so far helped 38 swans affected by the spill in the Sheffield and South Yorkshire canal, with a further 25 animals expected.

    The birds had been at risk of hypothermia, it said.

    The oil came from an upturned barge in Rotherham and leaked from cars trapped in flood water.

    An emergency fundraising appeal has begun to help with the rescue and rehabilitation.

    The number of people in the West Midlands who are unemployed fell slightly between July and September, new Office for National Statistics figures show.

    Of people aged 16 and over, 4.1% were out of work in those three months, down 0.5% on the previous quarter.

    The average unemployment rate for the UK was 3.8% in the same period and the ONS figures also show UK wage growth slowed down in that time.

    A burst pipe closed part of the County Hospital in Stafford earlier.

    The University Hospitals of North Midlands Trust said it had affected some renal outpatient appointments, with patients being sent to the Royal Stoke University Hospital instead.

    It's being treated as an isolated incident, said Warwickshire Police.

    Warwickshire's Dominic Sibley has helped his chances of a first Test appearance with 100 not out in an England tour match.

    He opened the batting with Rory Burns and retired after reaching his century in England's tour match against a New Zealand XI in Whangerei.

    England's first Test against New Zealand begins on 21 November and Sibley said afterwards: "Today was a massive positive for me. Hopefully I can build on that and get the call-up."

    A jury has been sworn in for the trial of two people charged with murdering a woman in Birmingham.

    Kevin Flanagan, 39, and Kathleen Salmond, 40, both deny murdering 39-year-old Lisa Bennett (pictured) in the Weoley Castle area of Birmingham.

    Salmond, 40,of Farnhurst Road, Hodge Hill, also denies benefit fraud and preventing Ms Bennett's burial.

    Ms Bennett was believed to be living in the Selly Oak area but was originally from Burton-upon-Trent and reported missing by a family member in May 2013.

    The case against Salmond and Flanagan, of Redbrook Covert, is expected to open on Wednesday.

    Two people had to be rescued from a lorry stuck in flood water on Eckington Road, Birlingham, in Worcestershire.

    Eckington Bridge remains impassable, said the fire service.

    Coventry Road in Church Lawford, Warwickshire, continues to be impassable due to flood water at the railway bridge, with bus services directed away from the area.

    Flooding has also closed New Street, in Upton-upon-Severn, Worcestershire, between the A4101 Old Street and Upper Hood Road.

    Watery Lane, in Lower Bullingham, Herefordshire, is closed between Lower Bullingham Lane and B4399.

    Emergency repairs to a bridge have closed the road between High Ercall and Roden in Shropshire.

    Eight blocks of flats in Telford could be demolished, because of concerns about structural issues and damp.

    The Wrekin Housing Trust told a meeting of Donnington and Muxton Parish Council ongoing repairs at the 1960s buildings on Leonard Close would cost £400,000.

    It is considering building 43 two and three bedroom homes there instead.

    The housing trust said 60 of the 72 flats are currently empty and it has helped residents find alternative accommodation.

    The Met Office currently doesn't have a yellow warning for the region until heavy rain arrives on Thursday, but that could change, the Environment Agency warned.

    An 11-year-old cyclist was threatened and assaulted during an attempted robbery in Rugby, police say. , external

    The boy was attacked by a man who demanded his bike in Alwyn Road, during the afternoon of 7 November.

    The boy managed to get away but was left shaken, said Warwickshire Police.

    Hundreds of British Sikhs have travelled to Pakistan to mark the 550th birth anniversary of the founder of their faith.

    The Kartarpur corridor was opened up by the Pakistani government, enabling Indian pilgrims to walk to the shrine through its territory, hailed as a significant development for relationships between the two countries.

    One of those who has made the journey to Pakistan is Kalvir Dillon, from Coventry, who’s visiting Nankana Sahib – one of the holiest places in Sikhism.

    "I had made the effort to read about it and to speak to my family members about it and now I've come here I can put it all into perspective."

    A bridge between High Ercall and Roden in Shropshire has been closed because of flood damage.

    Telford and Wrekin Council said it had caused a wall next to the Ercall Mill Bridge to collapse and its contractors were working to make it safe, so the B5062 can reopen.

    Work on a long-term solution, involving the reconstruction of the walls on both sides and new vehicle barriers, is likely to start next year and will involve closing the road again.

    More than 200 ambulances had to wait for more than an hour outside Worcestershire Royal Hospital last week before patients could be admitted.

    West Midlands Ambulance Service said 208 vehicles were involved.

    NHS England said patients should be accepted within 15 minutes.
