    Planned industrial action by members of the RMT Union means London Northwestern Railway and West Midlands Railway will run a reduced service on Saturdays in November and December.

    A very basic service will run on those routes.

    A tram honouring the comedian Jasper Carrott will be unveiled tomorrow morning.

    He's the third person to have a Midlands Metro tram named after him, following Ozzy Osborne and the late Cyrille Regis.

    Mr Carrott will be at the tram stop outside Birmingham Town Hall in Victoria Square for the ceremony.

    "Having a tram named after you is indeed an honour especially when it is all tied up with Birmingham and the West Midlands where I was born and bred," he said.

    Crewe Alexandra are hoping first choice goalkeeper Will Jaaskelainen makes it back from international duty in a fit state to play on Saturday.

    The 21-year-old is away with Finland for their under 21s UEFA European Championships qualifying match against Romania on Thursday.

    A bomb disposal squad was called to investigate a suspicious package in Ross-on-Wye during a visit by Prince Charles last week, it's been revealed - but it turned out to contain Christmas presents.

    The heavy parcel, which had been sent from the Netherlands, was spotted behind the Crown and Sceptre pub on 5 November, town councillor Rob Taylor said, and because nobody knew who it was meant for, he called the police.

    The Prince of Wales was in town that day to officially launch next year's Gilpin Festival, which celebrates the work of an 18th Century travel writer.

    Mr Taylor said the Post Office didn't know how the parcel had got there, but confirmed the presents were harmless.

  11. Ex-stuntman joins fire service for something 'less risky'published at 17:50 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2019

    A former Hollywood stunt man has been recruited by Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service and says he is looking for something "a little more stable and a little less risky".

    Alex Temmink, 40, performed stunts in films including Pirates of the Caribbean, Assassin’s Creed and War Horse, and also recently qualified as an ambulance paramedic.

    Mr Temmink said he'd seen fellow stuntmen get injured and now that he had two young children, he wanted to get out of the business.

    More than 300 households in Birmingham still have a black and white television licence, new figures show.

    Published on the 50th anniversary of colour television on BBC One, the figures show there were a total of 6,586 black and white licences across the UK at the end of September this year.

    According to the latest figures published by TV Licensing, London leads the way with 1,311 black and white permits, followed by Birmingham with 323 and Manchester with 245.

    An "adventure play experience" is being planned at Coombe Abbey as part of a £800,000 revamp.

    Plans for an “exciting and challenging” course have been proposed to update the existing “outdated” facilities.

    The play area will cost £2 per session and £5 for a family ticket of up to four children.

    Coventry City Council is also proposing to update an existing play area next to the visitor’s centre.

    If the plans are approved by cabinet, external, and subject to planning consent being obtained, it is proposed to have the new facilities open by the summer of 2021.
