    A bid to demolish the former Gala Bingo building in Coventry’s city centre has been submitted by student accommodation developers.

    The old bingo hall closed in February this year and has been vacant ever since.

    An application to demolish it has now been submitted to Coventry City Council by developers CODE Student.

    They have acquired the leasehold for the site, although the city council still owns the freehold of the land.

    A decision on the demolition bid, external is expected by the end of the month.

    Two men have been charged with murder after the fatal stabbing of a 21-year-old outside a Solihull pub.

    Jack Donoghue died in hospital following the attack near Popworld in Solihull on Saturday.

    Connor Moore, 20, from Weston Road, Lichfield, was also charged with violent disorder and 21-year-old Regan Watters, from Kitts Green Road, Stechford also charged with violent disorder and assault with intent to rob.

    They are due appear before Birmingham Magistrates' Court later today.

    A 39-year-old man arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender has been released pending further investigation and a 23-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder was released on bail, said West Midlands Police.

    Tyrall Blake, 21, who is being sought over the killing, has not yet been arrested, the force added.

    A woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the death of a baby girl.

    Officers were called to a property in Blurton, Staffordshire, just before 06:00 on 25 October, police say.

    The two-month-old was taken to hospital where she died a few days later.

    A post-mortem examination was inconclusive, said Staffordshire Police.

    The 29-year-old from Stoke-on-Trent has been released under investigation.

    The jury in a trial of a senior nurse charged with neglecting a woman who later died in hospital has been unable to reach a verdict.

    Catalina Ferchiu, 54, of Pool Close, Rugby, denies wilfully neglecting Rachel Smith at Overslade Care Home, in Rugby, Warwickshire.

    Ms Smith, 87, died in hospital three weeks after staff called an ambulance to the home, the jury at Warwick Crown Court heard during the trial.

    The case was adjourned on Monday with a further hearing set to take place on 10 December.

  5. Man trapped after three-lorry crash in Uttoxeterpublished at 11:40 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2019

    Traffic is being held on the A50 westbound in Uttoxeter after a crash involving three lorries.

    One man is trapped in his vehicle, police said.

    Emergency services were called to the scene between Ashbourne Road and the A522 shortly after 10:30.

    An ambulance crew is currently at the scene with drivers being warned to avoid the area.

    Fourteen children become homeless every day across the region, the charity Shelter says.

    It said 7,370 children in the West Midlands are homeless and living in temporary accommodation.

    The report looked at the impact of temporary accommodation like hostels and emergency bed and breakfasts (B&Bs) on families.

    The charity's findings also suggest that homelessness is at its highest rate since 2006.

    Shelter's findings only represent some of the children in Great Britain who are homeless. In England, there are thought to be a further 4470 homeless families who have found their own temporary accommodation.

    England captain Joe Root has backed Warwickshire opener Dominic Sibley, who failed to make a big score in the series against New Zealand.

    A 17-year-old boy remains in police custody on suspicion of attempted murder after a 16-year-old boy was stabbed several times at a house in Stoke-on-Trent.

    The victim was attacked at the building on Keelings Drive on Sunday, Staffordshire Police said.

    He was taken to hospital suffering multiple wounds.

    The company is providing free pipe lagging in areas of the region that it says are "hotspots" for leaky pipes.

    It's also advising people to wrap pipework, fittings and storage tanks that are kept in unheated areas of the home .

    The referee ruled that Kyle Edwards had been fouled by the Preston goalkeeper Declan Rudd.

    Albion head coach Slaven Bilic said there was some discussion of whether the decision was correct even within his own club's ranks.

    A primary school's being given £6m by Herefordshire Council so it can take on an extra 30 pupils every year.

    The local authority's cabinet approved, external spending the money on six new classrooms, a new hall, new netball courts and other facilities at Marlbrook Primary at Green Croft, Hereford.

    A report for the council says the school's seen a "significant increase" in its intake and the expansion would allow it to rise from 60 pupils to 90.

    Work's set to start after Christmas and should open to staff and children by spring 2021.
