    A woman has suffered a serious stab wound to her stomach after an attack in the Frankley area of Birmingham this morning.

    West Midlands Police said officers were called to Quarry House at 11:20.

    The woman is in a critical condition in hospital.

    No arrests have been made.

    The other side features a thank you from the bin crews, along with suggestions for how people can continue to support the service by reducing their waste, reusing items and recycling as much as they can.

    It was due to be held in September, but they said it would be impractical to press ahead.

    A life-size statue of Muhammad Ali could be erected at the site of a former community centre in Birmingham.

    The Muhammad Ali centre in Hockley was opened by the boxer during his visit to the city in 1984 and is set to be demolished and replaced with a new community facility.

    But some have voiced concerns over the plan, saying the history of the boxer's visit to the city could be forgotten completely with the demolition.

    Kajans Women’s Enterprise, which is behind the new centre, says it would like to put the statue in the exhibition space.

    A suspected burglar has been found rolled up in lagging in a loft.

    West Midlands Police said officers found him after getting a report of a man climbing through a smashed window at a house on Swinford Road, Wolverhampton, at 22:45 yesterday.

    They saw scuff marks near the loft hatch and found the 46-year-old was wrapped up in the insulation material

    He was arrested on suspicion of burglary and remains in police custody for questioning.

  15. Police officer wins raffle for £650,000 farmhousepublished at 14:31 British Summer Time 14 May 2020

    A 49-year-old police officer from Telford has won a grade two listed Shropshire farmhouse in a prize draw.

    Nigel and Jane Chalenor (pictured below) lived on Grafton Farm near Loppington for 18 years, but wanted to downsize and support good causes.

    Participants in the draw paid £2 a ticket for a chance of the prize. The property had been valued at up to £650,000, but the Chalenors wanted to follow the prize draw route to raise £100,000 above the market price so they could give 10% of ticket sales to the Severn Hospice.

    The winner, Alison Bellamy, is at work today and says she'd forgotten she entered the contest.

    The property comes fully furnished, with six bedrooms, a gym, hot tub and three acres of land.

  17. Pedestrian and cycle lanes plan to help social distancingpublished at 13:46 British Summer Time 14 May 2020

    A number of main roads around Birmingham could be turned into pedestrian zones or cycle lanes as part of measures to curb coronavirus.

    Birmingham City Council said its emergency transport plan aimed to create more space to allow social distancing. The authority is also looking at introducing more bus lanes and says it wants to create support packages for schools and businesses to encourage sustainable travel.

    The council said it saw the reduction in traffic around the city as an opportunity to promote "a quieter, safer environment for walking and cycling with much improved air quality."

    Golfer Ed Sandison resumed playing in spectacular style with a hole-in-one on his very first shot after lockdown restrictions were lifted.

    The amateur player made his perfect return at Styal Golf Club in Cheshire on its 176-yard par-three opening hole.

    Playing with his father-in-law Tony Sweeney, Sandison struck a 4-hybrid and was initially simply relieved to have made decent contact.

    "I hadn't swung a club through lockdown," he told BBC Sport.
