The River Severn could be used to heat buildings in Worcester after the city council agreed to investigate the idea.
Councillors backed plans to spend up to £7,000 on studying whether a heat network could be created in the city and at ways the river could be used for energy.
The proposal would see water drawn through a network of pipes from either the river or the ground and pumped around many of the buildings.
A report to the city council's environment committee on 21 July said the heat produced by the river would be the equivalent of 10,000 gas boilers.
Police are appealing for help to identify six potential witnesses to a murder in Smethwick
Jagdev Lally was found by a passer-by with serious head injuries in an alleyway near Tollgate Shopping Centre in Smethwick on 14 April and died almost three weeks later on 1 May.
West Midlands Police said the 39-year-old had been attacked at approximately 03:00.
Ashley Pace, 34 , of no fixed address, who was previously charged with wounding, has now been charged with murder.
The force has issued an appeal to trace further witnesses, captured by CCTV cameras covering the Tollgate shopping precinct in the hours before Mr Lally was found.
West Midlands Police is also reissuing a previous appeal for a seventh man, who the force said it was hoping would come forward.
A man and a teenage girl have died after their car came off a road and ended up in an orchard.
The vehicle was travelling last night on the road between Mordiford and Dormington, near Hereford, West Mercia Police said. , external
The car appeared to come off the route at Clay Hill Pit and was found among the fruit trees.
Officers said the 23-year-old man and 17-year-old girl were both dead.
Workers have been asked to self-isolate at AS Green and Co in Mathon since the outbreak began.
