A new councillor's been put forward to be Stoke-on-Trent's next lord mayor after a former British National Party parliamentary candidate stepped down from taking on the role.
Melanie Baddeley was to take over from current mayor Jackie Barnes in September but earlier this month withdrew after online "abuse".
The city council said, external City Independent councillor Jean Bowers had been proposed as the next lord mayor and would take the role if voted for by councillors in September.
The coronavirus pandemic means the term of office for the role will be eight months rather than the usual 12, the local authority added.
Thousands of new school places will be created for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) with 35 new free special schools, the government has announced.
Three will be in the West Midlands, providing about 300 places including for children with Social, Emotional & Mental Health conditions (SEMH), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and Multiple Learning Difficulties (MLD).
They are expected to provide tailored support and specialist equipment such as sensory appliances and communication aids.
The schools are due to be built by September 2022, the Department for Education said.

Paulius Petrasiunas, 24, died at the scene in Chervil Rise, Heath Town, Wolverhampton, on 13 July.
Sean Bulle, 20, from Clover Ley, Heath Town, appeared before Wolverhampton Magistrates' Court on Monday, where he was remanded into custody to appear at the city's crown court on Tuesday.
Birmingham is backing a bid to make all pubs, cafes and bars smoke-free inside and outside.
The Local Government Association wants the House of Lords to back legislation - so a ban on smoking would be included in all pavement licences.
The licenses are being given out by councils to help venues keep to social distancing rules.
Paulette Hamilton, the city's cabinet member for health said it was not about venues "denying" opportunity, but a chance for them to widen their customer base.

Libraries in Shrewsbury, Oswestry (pictured) and Ludlow have reopened their doors today.
Other libraries across the Shropshire Council area will follow, external in the coming weeks with a number of libraries in Telford & Wrekin already open.
A click and collect book service, rolled out by Shropshire Council at some libraries earlier this month, will be available to other sites from today as well.
They include Bishop’s Castle, Market Drayton and Shifnal as those sites will stay shut until 3 August.
A specialist rehabilitation hospital, run by private healthcare company Circle, is due to open in Birmingham in September.
The 120-bedroom hospital, described by the firm as the largest facility of its kind in the UK, has been built on the site of the former BBC studios at Pebble Mill in Edgbaston.
The facility, which will also attract about 200 jobs, is for patients recovering from a range of conditions – including Covid-19, stroke, sporting injuries and joint replacements.

Rooftop gardens and plants “cascading” down the wall are among the plans for a trio of apartment blocks in the heart of Solihull.
Proposals handed to the council would see the three new buildings – containing a total of 83 flats – erected on Homer Road.
The scheme would involve the demolition of Homer House, the current home of Shakespeare Martineau Solicitors.
Previously, planning permission had been granted for an office development at the same site, but the latest proposal will instead focus on housing.
The plans are likely to be considered by Solihull planners in the coming months.

A mobile coronavirus test centre is being set up in Burton upon Trent this week amid a rise in cases in the town.
From 4-15 July there were almost 40 cases, mainly in the areas of Anglesey and Shobnall as well as some in Horninglow, Staffordshire County Council said. , external
It added the figures included two families which had 14 people test positive for Covid-19 in the households.
The local authority said it had no plans for any imminent lockdown measures, but was setting up the mobile centre at Burton Albion's Pirelli Stadium and urged people to get tested if they had any symptoms of Covid-19.
As a comparison, Blackburn with Darwen, which is seen as England's latest coronavirus hotspot, has had 118 cases in the past week.
The "unacceptable" attack put the officers at risk of coronavirus, Warwickshire Police said.
