Birmingham 2022: "We want people to feel part of the journey"published at 12:11 British Summer Time 28 July 2020
The organisers of Birmingham's Commonwealth Games in 2022 are being urged to work with campaigners to be more diverse or risk losing community support.
The Games' organising committee has been criticised for having an almost entirely white executive management team and board.
Earlier this week,Commonwealth Games Federation president Dame Louise Martin stepped down from the board to be replaced by Barbados-based Sandra Osborne QC.
Ammo Talwar, who runs a music agency in Birmingham, organised an open letter signed by black, Asian and white community representatives urging leaders to take their concerns seriously.
He told BBC Radio 5Live: "We want local people to feel part of the journey rather than the Commonwealth Games being done to a city as diverse as Birmingham."
In response, the Commonwealth Games Federation said it backed the "renewed commitment"of the 2022 organising committee to sure it reflects the city's diversity.
