    The organisers of Birmingham's Commonwealth Games in 2022 are being urged to work with campaigners to be more diverse or risk losing community support.

    The Games' organising committee has been criticised for having an almost entirely white executive management team and board.

    Earlier this week,Commonwealth Games Federation president Dame Louise Martin stepped down from the board to be replaced by Barbados-based Sandra Osborne QC.

    Ammo Talwar, who runs a music agency in Birmingham, organised an open letter signed by black, Asian and white community representatives urging leaders to take their concerns seriously.

    He told BBC Radio 5Live: "We want local people to feel part of the journey rather than the Commonwealth Games being done to a city as diverse as Birmingham."

    In response, the Commonwealth Games Federation said it backed the "renewed commitment"of the 2022 organising committee to sure it reflects the city's diversity.

    People living in Wolverhampton are being urged to get tested for coronavirus even if their symptoms are mild.

    The city council is hoping extra testing will help them avoid a local lockdown after a recent increase in cases.

    Their latest figures show , external12.2 cases per 100,000 people in the city for the week up to 27 July, compared to 2.7 per 100,000 for the week before.

    The authority says many of the new cases are being linked to family clusters or contacts of known cases.

    Worcestershire and Warwickshire will be playing a friendly in front of a reduced crowd today, as part of a trial to see if fans can return to games.

    The game is being played at Edgbaston and only members are being allowed to purchase the limited tickets that have been put on sale.

    Tickets are also being sold to Warwickshire members for their Bob Willis Trophy match at Edgbaston on Saturday, versus Northamptonshire.

    New Road in Worcester will also host a game on Saturday, between Lancashire and Leicestershire.

    The game would have been played at Old Trafford, but the ECB said it wouldn't be possible to do that in a safe 'bubble' because England have been playing there.

    The Severn Valley Railway is due to reopen this weekend after four months of being shutdown.

    The railway has been losing around half a million pounds a month since its closure in March.

    Passengers will be asked to book ahead of time and to note that the company is running a reduced service to begin with.

    General manager Helen Smith said: "Once we get to September we hope to move back to more of a normal service, but this just gets us up and running again."

    It's not the first spot you'd think of when imagining sunshine and sand but Birmingham's former wholesale market is to be transformed.

    Smithfield Market, which was bulldozed in 2018, is to be the home for beach volleyball and basketball when the city hosts the Commonwealth Games in 2022.

    Beach volleyball will be making its second appearance at the games while 3x3 basketball is set to make its debut.

    It's also the first time wheelchair basketball will feature at a Commonwealth Games.

    The number of people with coronavirus at an Evesham food packing site has risen to 23.

    All 340 workers at Evesham Vale Growers were tested after 14 members of staff were confirmed as having Covid-19 last week.

    Crewe Alexandra manager David Artell says he is "thrilled to bits" to be named League Two manager of the year.

    The award from the League Managers' Association comes after he guided the Alex to promotion to League One.

    On the back of relegation from League One in May 2016, Crewe were 18th in League Two when Artell was appointed in January 2017.

    Artell says the award is down to his players: "It's a team effort and I'm just the recipient of that well functioning team if you like or a figurehead of that team."

    A war veteran who was sent to Malaya in 1949 has finally received his military campaign medal - in time for his 90th birthday.

    The Malayan Emergency, as it became known, was a bitter conflict against communist extremists.

    Norton Breen spent two years fighting with the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry.

    His brother Keith also served in Malaya, but only one of them received a medal on their return to the North East.

    Norton has lived in Bedworth, Warwickshire, since the mid-1960s, and his family enlisted the help of a veterans' group on Facebook to apply for the medal, which arrived during lockdown last month.

    Nine more workers at a food packaging site near Evesham have tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the total to 23.

    A minibus carrying workers has been identified as the source of the coronavirus outbreak at Evesham Vale Growers (EVG) in Blackminster.

    Dr Kathryn Cobain, director of public health for Worcestershire, said the workers who tested positive had been advised to isolate.

    "We continue to work with the business and Public Health England to control this outbreak," she said.

    All 340 staff at the site, which packs and distributes vegetables and salad products, are being tested.
