    Infections have "continued to decrease" across the UK in the week to 19 February, the latest figures from the ONS infection survey suggest.

    Vaccination rate

    In the West Midlands, one in 140 people are estimated to be testing positive for coronavirus in the period.

    At England level, one in 145 people are estimated to be testing positive for the coronavirus compared with one in 115 last week.

    About 97% of people aged over 70 in the region have received a Covid-19 vaccine but there is concern that take-up is lower among some ethnic minority groups and people who live in poorer neighbourhoods.

  20. Coventry and Warwickshire praised for 'highest vaccine uptake'published at 17:57 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2021

    Health Secretary Matt Hancock has praised health workers in Coventry and Warwickshire over Covid vaccine delivery.

    “I want to thank the whole team in Coventry and Warwickshire who have delivered the highest uptake in the whole country, giving first doses to over 95% of the over-65s in their area," he said during a government briefing earlier.

    "Thank you. It’s an absolutely spectacular effort.”

    Speaking from Downing Street, he urged people to stick to the stay-at-home guidance, warning the pandemic "isn't over yet".
