    A motorcyclist has died after his bike was involved in a crash with two cars in Sutton Coldfield.

    Off-duty medics stopped to help before ambulance staff arrived at the scene, but paramedics were unable to save him, the ambulance service said.

    The crash happened at the junction of Monmouth Drive and Darnick Road shortly before 20:00 on Monday.

    The drivers of both cars, both women, were injured, with one being taken to hospital.

    A man who was attacked in Pontefract last week has died in hospital.

    Simon Hailes, 40, from Worcestershire, was found with serious head injuries at an address on Dark Lane, in the town, at about 05:00 BST on Saturday 18 September.

    He was taken to Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield where he died a week later.

    Two people were arrested on suspicion of assault in connection with the incident and bailed pending further enquiries, police said.

    Detectives say they are continuing their enquiries to establish the circumstances that have led up to his death and have appealed for anyone with information to contact officers.

    The first Afghan families to be housed in Worcestershire are settling in to their new homes, the county council says, with more arriving by the end of the week.

    Worcestershire will be home to 230 Afghans over the next five years in a deal agreed with the Home Office.

    Neighbouring Herefordshire will take in "at least 125", officials say, including up to 56 who'll arrive in November and December.

    People who have been given crutches after treatment at a Cheshire hospital are being urged to return them if they no longer need them as stocks run low.

    Bosses at Leighton Hospital, Crewe, said , externalthere is a shortage of them and they want to see if it can get some given back.

    Carole Darlington, a consultant at the hospital, said they can be dropped off at the main reception.

    "Anybody who does come to the hospital and needs to be discharged with a pair of crutches will get them, it is just that stocks are running low so we would like to see what we can do to replenish those stocks," she said.

    Highways England has released a video showing how it lifted into place a bridge over the M6.

    The motorway was closed at junction 10 in Walsall over the weekend to allow the work.

    The two existing bridges are being replaced with two new, four-lane bridges to increase capacity.

    A CCTV image has been released of two men police want to speak to following a burglary in Birmingham.

    Mobile phones and a laptop were taken during the break-in at a property on Selly Oak Road.

    The Library of Birmingham has been lit up in blue to remember police officers who have died in the line of duty.

    National Police Memorial Day on Sunday coincided with St Michael’s Day, the patron saint of police officers.

    A service of remembrance was also held at Lincoln Cathedral.

    In July, a permanent memorial to officers who have died while protecting the public was unveiled at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire.

    Fire crews have been dealing with a large blaze involving two heavy goods vehicles in Wolverhampton.

    The emergency services were called to Crown Street in the Heath Town area of the city shortly after 21:30 on Sunday.

    The fire, involving two vehicles inside a metal building, is being treated as arson, says West Midlands Fire Service.
