  1. Academy trust holds parents meeting over school's futurepublished at 13:20 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2016

    Winterbourne Academy

    Parents and staff at Winterbourne Academy in South Gloucestershire will meet tonight to discuss the school's future. 

    The academy chain that runs Winterbourne, as well as Yate Academy, is projected to have a £1m shortfall this financial year. 

    As a result the Ridings Federation of Academies trust has asked other chains to come in and run the schools from next September. 

    Unions are worried about the plans and say the public meeting will try to secure a "favourable outcome" for the schools. 

  2. Taunton cricket pitch submerged after floodingpublished at 13:01 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2016

    Taunton Deane Cricket Club has turned from a green pitch to a muddy lake.

    The pitch is surrounded by a number of streams, yesterday's bad weather caused them to burst their banks and flood the area.

  3. Latest train news from GWRpublished at 12:42 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2016

    The railway line between Bristol Parkway and Swindon has been closed again due to flooding. Trains between South Wales and London are being diverted via Bristol Temple Meads, with one service an hour running.

    Additionally, Great Western Railway is advising people not to travel into Devon and Cornwall, and speed restrictions apply to and from Weston-super-Mare. 

    GWR say that tickets dated for Monday or Tuesday can be used tomorrow or on Thursday.

    Ministers will debate the decision to put the electrification of the Great Western Railway around Bristol and Bath on hold later.

    The Government says it can run newer, larger trains on the route without the need for costly and disruptive electrification works.

    But Bristol MP Charlotte Leslie says she is extremely concerned about the impact of the decision.

  9. Travel roundup - which roads are affected?published at 10:58 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2016

    Now that the rush hour has subsided, here's how some of the roads and public transport in our area is affected because of the flooding.

    Trains

    • GWR is advising rail passengers not to travel into or out of Devon today, external as the line between Tiverton Parkway and Exeter St. Davids has been severely damaged. 
    • Speed restrictions are in place between Bristol Temple Meads and Weston-super-Mare. Check with the operator before you travel.

    Flooding has affected these roads in our area:

    • A370, West Town Road in Backwell near the Dark Lane junction.
    • B3130, High Street in Chew Magna.
    • A4 Newton St. Loe near the Globe Roundabout is just about passable.
    • B3097, Station Road in Westbury closed between the Railway Inn and the Oldfield Road junction
    • A417 in Gloucester, flooding on St Oswald's Road around the Priory Road junction.
    • A371 in Shepton Mallet, flooding near the Back Lane junction.
    • A39, Glastonbury between the Wirral Park Roundabout and the Beckery Old Road junction.
    • A39 in Kilve around the Pardlestone Lane junction.

  11. Whitchurch flooding: council begins work to clear the drainspublished at 10:31 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2016

    Drain clearing teams have arrived in Whitchurch to clear the drains from debris which may stop the flood waters from subsiding.

    Once the water has gone, Bristol Waste will clean up any remaining rubbish left there by the flooding.

    Some 4,000 litres of water a minute are being pumped out of the area around Summer Lane Pond in Worle. 

    North Somerset Council have installed a hose across Elmham Way, and they are advising motorists to take extra care when approaching that area.

    River levels are high in Bradford-on-Avon, but flood defences are holding to keep the town dry.

    The levels are due to peak about lunchtime.

  15. Bristol City Council working on clearing water from Whitchurchpublished at 09:21 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2016

    A gully cleaning team is out at Whitchurch clearing away debris so that the flood water can drain away.

    Bristol City Council said they would welcome any support.

    "Once the water has fully drained, the council will request that Bristol Waste carries out a full clean-up of the area. Due to the scale of the situation across the city, we'd welcome any support from the public helping to clear leaves collecting in gully grids, but only if it's safe to do so.

    If your road is blocked due to flooding in Bristol, residents can call 0117 922 2100 (8.30am-6pm, Monday-Friday) or 0117 922 2050 at all other times .

    This was the scene in Portbury yesterday, captured by a dashboard camera. Some drivers were still going through the flood waters in the village.

    There, one resident has shown us how badly flooded his car was from Monday's storm.
