    Some 60 school in Somerset have closed this morning.

    More than 50 firefighters are currently tackling a blaze that's broken out on a large ship in the Royal Portbury Dock near Bristol.

    The fire is in the hold of ship, which is believed to be transporting large quantities of animal feed.

    Avon Fire crews are working closely with staff at the docks to put out the blaze.

    The swimmers regularly take to the waves at this time of year and have credited the activity with improving their health and wellbeing.

    There's an amber warning for snow in the West Country tomorrow from midday through to the early part of Friday.

    Storm system 'Emma' is moving up and bringing some strong winds which could cause blizzards when combined with the snow.

    We'll experience very cold temperatures tonight of around -5C.

    Expect an exceptionally cold day tomorrow with biting winds.

  13. More details about fatal crash on A417published at 21:41 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2018

    Police in Gloucestershire have revealed more details about a crash on the A417 earlier in which a woman died.

    The collision at Crickley Hill, Witcombe happened shortly before 2.55pm and involved a black Nissan Qashqai and a silver Peugeot 206.

    The driver of the Peugeot, a 39-year-old woman from the Stonehouse area, died at the scene.

    The driver of the Nissan, a man, was treated by ambulance crews at the scene but no details of his injuries are available.

    Highways England confirmed at 9.30pm that the road has now reopened.

  14. Bath council hopes Curo will 'engage with Foxhill residents'published at 21:24 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2018

    Bath and North East Somerset Council (BANES) says it hopes housing association Curo will "continue to engage with residents" over the future of the Foxhill estate in Bath.

    Earlier we reported that Curo had finally droppped its redevelopment plans in the face of a fierce campaign.

    A Banes spokesman said the council has "always made it clear that it supports improvements to the quality of housing for local people, delivered in a way that has the broadest possible support amongst the Foxhill community".

    He added the authority remains committed to the principles of improved housing and investment in the area".

    Many schools across the West are issuing closure warnings to parents.

    Parents have been asked to pick up from some schools from 1pm tomorrow, with many others closing all day.

    Parents and carers should contact their schools directly or listen to local BBC Radio stations for school closures and updates throughout the day.
