    Some of those benefiting from a snow-day in Bath have been making the most of it.

    A group of skiers decided on an unusual way to get moving in Bath - getting towed by a 4x4.

    The stunt was captured in Bath's Victoria Park this morning, as heavy snow blanketed south-west England.

    Claudia Fragapane has suffered a torn Achilles tendon in training and will have to withdraw from forthcoming competitions, including the Commonwealth Games, according to British Gymnastics.

    The Bristol-born gymnast said: “I am so sad to say I will not be competing at the British Championship, Gymnastics World Cup and Commonwealth Games.

    "Yesterday, I was on floor and I felt something go on take-off and sadly I have snapped my Achilles.

    "I feel so upset and heartbroken, words can’t describe how I’m feeling right now! I don’t know when I will be back competing again but I have the greatest people around me that will help me recover mentally and physically.

    "This won’t be the end for me I will come back stronger."

  8. Update: 361 customers still without power in Somerset and Wiltshirepublished at 15:31 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March 2018

    Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks say that the power went out for about 1000 customers at 13:30 BST today.

    Engineers have now been able to restore power for many of those people, although 361 customers remain without power.

    Scottish and Southern Electricity say that they're aiming to resume normal service by 19:30 BST, but this may well be later due to difficulties caused by weather.

    There is no information yet on what caused the outage.

  10. Bath Half Marathon is cancelled due to 'extreme weather'published at 15:15 Greenwich Mean Time 2 March 2018

    The Bath Half Marathon will not be taking place this Sunday, organisers have announced.

    The City of Bath was affected by heavy snowfall yesterday afternoon and evening, with further snow and freezing temperatures forecast to continue through to Sunday.

    Andrew Taylor, Race Director of Bath Half Marathon said: “runner, spectator and volunteer safety is paramount for us and with the current road and pavement conditions cannot guarantee safety underfoot."

    He added that it was sadly not possible to re schedule such a complex 'closed road' participation event.

    Registered entrants will be offered a full refund on their race entry.

    A mother and newborn baby have been rescued from an ambulance that became stranded in the snow on the A360, according to Wiltshire Fire and Rescue.

    Firefighters say that they used a 4x4 to transport the patients to hospital following the incident at Druids Lodge, near Stonehenge yesterday evening.
