Bristol Water’s Chief Customer Officer, Ben Newby, has issued the following statement:

We would like to thank our customers for their ongoing patience and we hope to restore water to the majority of our customers within the next couple of hours.

“In the meantime, bottled water has been arranged to customers on our priority services register.

GWR is warning customers they expect to run a reduced service after midday in anticipation of high temperatures.

Network Rail is predicting track temperatures of more than 50˚C, as the weather forecast suggests temperatures will exceed record-highs.

Heat-related speed restrictions on lines in London Paddington are likely to be needed and GWR is expecting to reduce the number of long-distance services, with longer journey times expected.

Those travelling should check before they do so, and can travel tomorrow with today's ticket without penalty.

Speed restrictions will be put in place on our network... [which can] only be determined by conditions on the ground and are likely to change throughout the day. We will continue to run as many trains as we can but those travelling should be aware that we will have to reduce the number of trains we can run. Please do heed the usual advice to travel with water, and if you hold a ticket for [today] and would like to travel on Friday, we have eased restrictions so that you are able to do so.
