The A142 has been closed in both directions between Wentworth and Witcham, near Ely, following a crash involving two cars.
Police say the road is expected to remain shut for some time.

The two companies that were also in the bidding process for the rail franchise, National Express and First Rail, have spoken of their disappointment over their unsuccessful bids.
A National Express spokesman said: "We are naturally disappointed because we delivered a disciplined bid that balanced significant customer improvement with excellent value to taxpayers and a fair return for shareholders.
"We are seeking feedback on our bid from the Department for Transport."

Online grocery retailer Ocado have announced plans for a new delivery centre in Peterborough, creating hundreds of new jobs.
The operation at Darlows Business Centre in Fengate is expected to create about 230 jobs.
Yesterday Ocado announced a deal with Morrisons which would see the supermarket chain expand its home delivery service nationwide.

Following the announcement that Abellio has been awarded the East Anglia rail franchise, shadow transport minister Daniel Zeichner said: "I'm pleased we finally have some certainty about what will happen on the Cambridge to Liverpool Street line after this much delayed announcement."
The Cambridge MP added: "Passengers won't expect any excuses from Abellio now the company has the benefits of continuity and can plan for the long term."
He also called for the rail operator to promise there would be no more ticket "price hikes".

The comments of Transport Secretary Chris Grayling this morning sum up the importance of today’s announcement.
This new nine-year franchise, with its tough requirements of improved service levels and new rolling stock, is the result of a long campaign by the business community and particularly the region’s MPs.
Shorter franchises had failed to bring about any major changes to rail services in East Anglia for years and there was a perception outside the region that we were a rural undeveloped backwater.

Transport Secretary Chris Grayling says the new franchise deal will mean the years of East Anglia's rail passengers being "under-loved" are over.
Referring to new carriages being planned under the deal, which covers a region stretching from Hertfordshire in the west to Suffolk in the east, said: "They will be state-of-the-art, there will be a big improvement in terms of capacity, there'll be more seats for passengers, so this should transform the passenger experience.
"There's no doubt the East Anglian region has been under-loved in rail terms for a long time and those people who use the service will say they haven't had new trains.
"Now they're going to get them and they're going to get them right across the network, and every single carriage is going to be replaced and I think it will transform the experience of people who travel on the trains in East Anglia."

The managing director of Abellio Greater Anglia says it has felt passenger "frustration" over the service as it bid for the new franchise, which runs until 2025.
Dominic Booth, managing director for Abellio in the UK, said: "We're absolutely over the moon to win the new nine-year contract for East Anglia. We've been operating the existing franchise there for the last four years, and having to do so with pretty old kit and equipment, pretty old trains.
"We've suffered some frustration; we've felt the frustration of the passengers in East Anglia, and that's really fuelled us to hatch our plans - our very exciting plans - for this franchise."

A Cambridge relationship counsellor says she still hasn't revealed how she voted in the EU Referendum to avoid arguements with relatives.
Relate Cambridge, external is offering advice to the "surprising number" of couples and families who have fallen out over Brexit.
Elaine Taylor, from the charity, told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "My family were voting in different ways and I daren't be the one who sides with one or the other".
Brexit "could be the last straw in a relationship that was already heated," she added.

On this day in 1964 a Treasure Trove (as it was then known) Inquest was held at Huntingdon Town Hall after the discovery of 1,108 silver groats from the reigns of Edward IV, Henry VI, Richard III and Henry VII.

Abellio, external has won the franchise, external to continue delivering rail services in the Eastern region for the next nine years.
It has promised to deliver a £1.4bn boost to rail services, and more than 1,000 new carriages.
This is a long franchise, and it contains some strict requirements on the operator to dramatically improve journey times and the passenger experience, as a result of a four-year campaign by local MPs and the business community.
It promises to deliver one of the biggest orders for British-built trains - almost £1bn for 660 carriages from the Bombardier factory in Derby - as part of a contract that will secure 1,000 jobs into the next decade.
The group must also stick to tough new targets for operational performance levels.
