    Nic Cruwys, 44, was left with brain injuries after being in a coma for three weeks, with doctors believing he wouldn't recover.

    A man has been remanded in custody after being charged with causing the deaths of four members of a Bedfordshire family by dangerous driving.

    Tracy Houghton (pictured), 45, from Dunstable, died alongside her two sons - 13-year-old Ethan and 11-year-old Josh - and her partner's 11-year-old daughter, Amy Goldsmith, on the A34 in Berkshire last month.

    Tomasz Kroker, 30, from Andover, also faces one count of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. 

    He appeared at Reading Magistrates' Court and is due to appear again at the crown court on 10 October.

    James Stutter tried to manufacture the drug in a two bed flat in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, in 2014. 

    When the police raided the address in Long Chaulden, they found a recipe book in which his partner had written out the ingredients for crystal meth.

    Prosecutor Roxanne Aisthorpe told the jury at St Albans Crown Court: "You may have seen the TV series Breaking Bad (pictured). That laboratory was quite professional. That was not what happened in this case."

    Police, wearing hazard protection clothing, raided the Hemel address after a parcel from the United States to the UK had been intercepted on 17 March 2014. 

    Crystal Meth had been hidden inside the hollowed out portion of a colouring book.

    "It is a sign of your stupidity that you watched a TV programme (pictured) about methamphetamine and thought you could manufacture it."

    Those are the words of Recorder Leslie Cuthbert, who today sentenced James Stutter to a two-year suspended sentence for trying to create a Breaking Day-style Meth laboratory in a Hemel Hempstead flat. 

    He said "You should consider yourself extremely fortunate the police intervened when they did. You could have caused serious harm to yourself and others."

    The sentence handed to Stutter, 37, includes a drug rehabilitation requirement. He will have to undergo a weekly drug test and will have one-to-one supervision for 12 months. He must also abide by a four-month curfew between 10:00 and 07:00 and pay £500 prosecution costs.

    A man who tried to recreate a Breaking Bad-style Crystal Meth laboratory in his former Hemel Hempstead flat has been given a suspended sentence.

    James Stutter, 37, now of Riverside Gardens, Berkhamsted, was previously convicted of attempting to make Methylamphetamine and was sentenced today at St Albans Crown Court. 

    He said in court he'd watched the popular TV show (pictured) and "thought it would be easy to make", but in hindsight he said it was a "stupid idea". 

    Stutter received a two-year jail sentence suspended for two years, with a drug rehabilitation requirement.

  8. Man stabbed in Luton fightpublished at 12:02 British Summer Time 9 September 2016

    A man was stabbed in the hand in a fight with another man in Luton in the early hours of Thursday. 

    Police believe the incident, which happened between midnight and 02:00 in the area of Avenue Grimaldi and Alder Cresent, is "isolated."

    Both men left the scene, but the injured man took himself to hospital where he's currently in a stable condition.

    The A6 in Bedfordshire was closed for several hours by the Wixams estate in the early hours of this morning after a car overturned. 

    The picture below shows the extent of the damage to the VW Passat. 

    The ambulance service has confirmed a man in his 20s suffered neck and back pain and was taken to Bedford Hospital. It's not thought his injuries are serious.

    Staff at Keech Hospice in Luton have praised firefighters who stopped a large field fire from causing any damage to their building.

    They said the incident yesterday evening off Underwood Close was "too close for comfort", but everything is now back to normal.

    Chief executive Liz Searle said: "I am extremely grateful for the quick response and excellent support of Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service and my staff. We do have emergency plans in place in event of situations like this and we followed our procedure."

    She confirmed its 25th anniversary garden festival, external will take place tomorrow as planned.

    The fire in the field in Luton yesterday spread to 90 hectares (222 acres).

    Staff and patients from the nearby Keech Hopsice had to be moved as the building was close to the boundary fence, which caught fire.

    Bedfordshire firefighters split into two teams to try and put it out, with some dealing with the field fire, while others tackled the fence.  

    About 60 firefighters and six engines, two rural water carriers and two multi-use vehicles were sent to the scene.

    It was put out at about 19:25. The cause of the fire has yet to be confirmed.

    A major field fire in Luton caused the partial evacuation of Keech Hospice yesterday afternoon. 

    The fire service was called to a stubble field fire at Underwood Close at about 17:20.

    Staff and patients from the hospice were moved after the building became "compromised" by smoke. They were able to return a few hours later.

    An off-duty police officer out shopping in Letchworth arrested two men when she saw them acting suspiciously.

    Det Sgt Mim Law was in Lidl on Jubilee Road in the town on Tuesday when she spotted them.

    She detained one and called out to members of the public to detain the other man. 

    Two other off-duty officers, who were also in the store, helped out as well.

    Two lanes are currently blocked and there's queuing traffic and long delays on the M1 northbound, between J12 (Flitwick) and J13 (Bedford), because of a crash between two vehicles.

    People living in Penn in Buckinghamshire are upset at plans for a large secondary school to replace the former special school, which went into administration and shut last summer.

    A new 1,200-pupil school is proposed on the same site as the former 100-pupil school, and the Penn and Tyler's Green Residents' Society told the Bucks Free Press, external the roads in the area would not be able to cope with the amount of traffic.

    Bucks County Council said the former special school site was purchased by the Education Funding Agency (EFA) to provide a free school in line with the government's commitment to 500 new free schools by 2020.

    It said it was "not seeking to open a new special school at the moment", but would be "looking at special school placement planning for the next five years, once an ongoing review of special educational needs and disability is completed".

    Crisis talks are taking place in Hertfordshire today over rail services on the Thameslink and Great Northern train lines.

    Train operator Govia and the Department of Transport (DfT) will attend talks at Hertfordshire County Council's headquarters. 

    The authority said since the franchise was awarded two years ago, passengers have faced delays and cancellations to services that have made it impossible for commuters to journey plan with any certainty.

    A group of teenagers that attacked a Watford supporter after a football match in Wolverhampton will be sentenced today.

    Nic Cruwys was left in a coma and fighting for his life after the attack in March last year. He was left with brain injuries from which he still hasn't fully recovered. 

    Four of the teenagers, including a 15-year-old boy, have admitted causing grievous bodily harm. Another admitted threatening behaviour, and the sixth to affray.

    They will appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court later.

    A man has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving following a crash last month in which four members of a Bedfordshire family were killed.

    Tomasz Kroker, 30, from Wendover, has been charged with four counts of causing death by dangerous driving and one count of causing serious injury by dangerous driving on the A34 in Berkshire on 10 August.    

    Tracy Houghton, 45, from Dunstable, died alongside her two sons - 13-year-old Ethan and 11-year-old Josh - and her partner's 11-year-old daughter, Amy Goldsmith.

    Their Vauxhall Corsa crashed with a lorry as the family returned from holiday. Ms Houghton's partner, Mark Goldsmith, was following in the car behind with his son Jake.

    Mr Kroker was remanded in custody yesterday and will appear before Reading Magistrates' Court today.
