It's thought the long-haired grey cat might have jumped in the van in Cambridge - or somewhere else along the route - before hopping out near Maidstone.

His new temporary home is at the Cats Protection centre in Bredhurst.

Manager Adrian Ferne thinks the van driver was "too busy in the Black Friday rush" to notice the fluffy "package" among his boxes.

But, despite lots of publicity on social media, "Reagan", as he's been nicknamed, still hasn't been reunited with his owner.

The neutered cat hadn't been microchipped, but staff are still hopeful, Mr Ferne said.

Otherwise, this five-year-old looks destined to spend Christmas at the centre, some 85 miles (137km) away from where he should be at this time of year.

  10. Can Heidi Allen be an MP and Mayor?published at 11:40 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2016

    Hannah Olsson
    BBC Radio Cambridgeshire political reporter

Heidi Allen has said she'll continue to be MP for South Cambridgeshire if she's elected Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

As she begins campaigning she'll undoubtedly be asked repeatedly whether she can do both roles. She has already told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire she feels "comfortable" doing this and there's no constitutional obstacle, but what about the practicalities?

Well Ken Livingstone and Boris Johnson both served as an MP and Mayor of London - albeit supported by a large mayoral team.

    Ken Livingstone and Boris Johnson

What is perhaps a better comparison is with the MPs who also serve as government ministers, continuing to serve their constituencies while having busy front bench roles, in a sense she could be 'Minister of Cambridge'.

What we do know is that the government and the local councils are now committed to this devolution deal working.

As the Mayor is a new role it can be moulded in different ways, and in politics - where there's a will there is a usually a way.
