  5. Paralympic sheep herding 'hopes' dashedpublished at 11:42 Greenwich Mean Time 21 March 2017

    Helen Burchell
    BBC News

Paralympic rower James Fox, who'll be given the Freedom of the City of Peterborough later, has told us he's looking forward to being able to herd his sheep around the streets as one of the perks of the ancient honour.

"I think it's quite an old-fashioned tradition and one of the rumours I've heard is that I can herd my sheep over Town Bridge on Sundays, which sounds pretty bizarre, but I'm looking forward to doing that."

Asked if he actually has any sheep, he said: "I don't, yet, but I'm sure I can buy some."

Unfortunately, we've got bad news for 24-year-old Fox, who won gold with the GB Rowing Team LTA coxed fours at Rio last summer...

You can't herd your sheep over the bridge. Freeman or no Freeman.

It's a perk in places, but not in Peterborough.

We've yet to break this news to the would-be herder as he's busy training, but if you're reading this, James, we're sorry we couldn't let you down more gently.

Also being honoured as Freemen of Peterborough today are gymnast Louis Smith, who has won four medals in three Olympics, and Rio bronze medal-winning wheelchair basketball player Lee Manning.

We have no idea whether either had similar sheep herding hopes dashed today.

If you're out and about in Peterborough today, you may see some shiny new blue plaques being installed at various locations in the city centre.

The new plaques were the idea of the Peterborough Civic Society, which over two years made 20 that will replace older nondescript ones, or are completely new.

Some of the places you can see them are at Cowgate, the Town Hall, the Lido and the town bridge.

Toby Wood, vice chair of the society, said the plaques were designed "to raise the profile of Peterborough and the buildings here".

"We've already got 30 or 40 all over Peterborough, but a lot are worn and some aren't in particularly accessible places," he said.

"We're installing them all over the city centre, not only for 'Peterborians', but for people visiting the city.

"The blue plaque is so recognisable."

  7. Peterborough athletes to receive Freedom of the Citypublished at 09:37 Greenwich Mean Time 21 March 2017

A special reception will also be held at Peterborough's Town Hall for Paralympic basketball star Lee Manning, who won bronze in Rio 2016. He'll also be awarded Freedom of the City, but is unable to attend the event.

Peter Hiller, who chairs Peterborough City Council's honours selection panel, said: "Louis, James and Lee are three of the greatest athletes that Peterborough has ever produced, and it can only be right that they are receiving the city's highest honour."

    Adam Jinkerson

The MP for South Cambridgeshire, Heidi Allen, has been outlining the changes she thinks need to be made to the child maintenance scheme.

New figures  show a UK backlog of more than £3.8bn in uncollected child maintenance payments.

The Conservative MP says arrears of £500 or £1,000 is urgently needed by low income families.

The Department for Work and Pensions said a new system was "actively pursuing" unpaid child maintenance.

Figures show the vast majority of unpaid maintenance money was accumulated under the old Child Support Agency, replaced in 2012 by the Child Maintenance Service - which itself has already developed a further £93m of unpaid monies.

  15. Can sacking the assistant help results?published at 17:16 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2017

    Peter Swan
    BBC Radio Cambridgeshire sport

The departure of Peterborough United assistant manager Lee Glover may come as a shock to some, but Posh have a history of sacking assistants.

Former assistant Nicky Eaden left via mutual consent in November 2010, with Posh having fallen off the promotion pace in League One - suffering big defeats against Charlton and Southampton in the 2010-11 season.

Following Eaden's departure, then manager Gary Johnson left in January 2011 - the same season.

Posh subsequently went on to gain promotion to the Championship.

More recently, Kevin Russell, who was assistant to Darren Ferguson, left via mutual concent in the summer of 2014 after almost four years at London Road. Ferguson then went on to leave in February 2015.

Glover leaves today after just nine months of being current boss Grant McCann's assistant, with Posh on a five-match winless run following their  1-1 draw with struggling Oldham  on Saturday.

  16. Posh assistant manager leaves clubpublished at 17:15 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2017

    Peter Swan
    BBC Radio Cambridgeshire sport

"Results have been poor this year and, probably, I've carried the can."

That was the message from former Peterborough United assistant manager Lee Glover, who today  parted company with the club after just nine months.

The 46-year-old joined manager  Grant McCann's staff last June .

Peterborough have struggled in 2017, winning just four games.

They find themselves 12th in League One, eight points outside the play-off places with seven games remaining.

    On his departure

"I had a chat with [director of football] Barry Fry and he decided it was probably best to terminate my contract. That was the decision taken at board level," Glover told  BBC Radio Cambridgeshire .

"Although I'm disappointed, these things happen in football."

    On Posh boss McCann

"Grant McCann will be OK. I've had a chat with him and I'll speak with him again tonight. Like me he's an honest bloke," said Glover.

"He's had a lot to deal with in the last couple of months and he's dealt with it all in a professional and mature manner, which you might not have expected from an inexperienced manager.

"It's time now for everyone at the club to rally round Grant and help him. It's time for everyone at the club to back each other up."
