"It wasn't always a particularly kind environment," he said.

"I can understand why there haven't been any out gay footballers while playing. It would be a very, very difficult place to be."

He added dressing rooms were often a place for "casual racism," saying while things have improved outwardly in the game, there remains an element of "institutionalised racism".

"With the amount of black players who have graced our game in the last 30 years, there is no easy explanation as to why there are so few black coaches," he said.

And, while he says that helped him form a point of difference which allowed him to integrate in to the dressing room, Youngs admits there were times when the "banter" was too much.

"Most of it is good natured and friendly," he said. "But unfortunately it isn't all like that.

"I found it difficult sometimes and had to get away.

"It is a really blokey, macho world. That's understandable when you are stripping lads straight out of school, chucking them into what is essentially an extension of school."

  7. New dinosaur facts have 'opened a can of worms'published at 11:04 Greenwich Mean Time 23 March 2017

    Dotty McLeod
    BBC Radio Cambridgeshire

This morning I've been reeling with the news that what we currently know about dinosaurs could be wrong

Matt Baron, a PHD student based at Cambridge University, was part of the research team and says working on the three-year study has "opened a can of worms".

He told me that they ignored all previous opinions and went in with "an open mind".

It's already caused some people to criticise and test their ideas, as he's says they've been flooded with emails as some people are "not so happy, but we expected this".

He believes it will now start a debate and even thinks the up and coming film Jurassic World 2 might even have to change its script now.

  8. Watch: Dinosaur facts in doubtpublished at 10:37 Greenwich Mean Time 23 March 2017

    Pallab Ghosh
    Science correspondent, BBC News

So what does the new research about dinosaurs that's come from Cambridge University actually mean?

The reassessment shows that the meat-eating beasts, such as t yrannosaurus rex  and v elociraptor , have been wrongly classified in the dinosaur family tree.

One of the implications is that dinosaurs first emerged 15 million years earlier than previously believed.

And the fossil evidence suggests that this origin may have occurred further north than current thinking suggests - possibly in an area that is now the UK.

    Here's my explanation.

  10. Major shake-up suggests dinosaurs may have 'UK origin'published at 10:19 Greenwich Mean Time 23 March 2017

    Pallab Ghosh
    Science correspondent, BBC News

It seems like what we currently know about dinosaurs might be wrong .

Experts at Cambridge University have re-evaluated dinosaur fossils and concluded that the first dinosaurs may have originated in an area that is now Britain, not in the southern hemisphere as previously thought.

This new research suggests that the current theory of how dinosaurs evolved and where they came from is wrong.
