    Richard Westcott
    Transport correspondent

Following events in London earlier this afternoon , British Transport Police has told me extra officers will be out tonight, across the whole British rail network, not just London, "to reassure" people.

No specific numbers of how many extra officers have been given, and there's no indication as to whether they'll be armed or not.

To be clear, they say it's just to reassure people, and not because of a specific threat.

But you could see a bigger presence going home tonight.

Heidi Allen, MP for South Cambridgeshire, has been telling the BBC what she saw and heard in the moments after a man stormed into the grounds of the Houses of Parliament and stabbed a police officer.

"I was in one of the buildings the other side of Portcullis House when the voting bell went.

"I was coming into the open-air bit right in front of Big Ben when two policemen ran at me with machine guns as shots were going off.

"They bundled me into a doorway to get out of the area so I could hear the shots, but they were in the opposite direction so I couldn't see.

    "It's absolutely startling.

"The sound of those gunshots is not something you expect to hear yards from your place of work."

    Adam Jinkerson
    BBC Local Live

Melanie Hey, one of the architects working on the project, said the area was in need of radical reform if it was to survive in the future.

"We think the market needs to be redistributed and more open and accessible to everybody," she told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.

"It also needs more breaks in the stalls, so not just longs runs."

Ms Hey also commented on the uneven cobbled surface of the market which she wants changed.

Residents are being asked for their input on the plans.

  16. Lunchtime weather: Wetpublished at 12:34 Greenwich Mean Time 22 March 2017

    Adam Jinkerson

Wet Wet Wet's 1995 hit Love Is All Around is probably the most appropriate song right now, as not only is it pouring it down outside our Cambridge office, my colleague Dave is about to "feel it in his fingers and feel it in his toes" as he rides his bike home.

After what was a bright morning with some sunny spells, thickening cloud will bring more showery outbreaks of rain from the south-west during the afternoon.

Some rain may locally turn heavy, with hail possible.

    Highs of 7C (45F).

  20. Swan startling motorists by the A10published at 11:14 Greenwich Mean Time 22 March 2017

    Adam Jinkerson
    BBC Local Live

We'd had a number of reports this morning about a swan being perilously close to the A10 by the Landbeach turning, so I've popped along to see what's happening.

    Swan
    Swan

I can't quite tell if it's nesting or hurt, but it's certainly rather close to the carriageway. However, it doesn't appear to be causing any particular disruption to traffic at the moment.

    We've made the RSPCA aware.
