The mother of missing airman Corrie McKeague says she still hopes for that phone call from police to say her son has been found.

It's eight months since the 23-year-old disappeared on a night out with friends in Bury St Edmunds.

The search for Corrie has focused in recent weeks on a landfill site at Milton, near Cambridge, after discrepancies in bin lorry weight suggested he may have crawled into one for shelter.

The investigation has so far cost in excess of £1m.

Nicola Urquhart told Good Morning Britain that she fears someone has lied to police.

"Only four vehicles go in there," she said. "He's left in one of those vehicles, so either somebody's not telling the truth or he's ended up at the landfill.

"The search that they've been carrying out, they have found things as small as mobile phones - it really is a thorough search. I have no doubt from the way that the police have described it to me that if Corrie were there they would have found him."

Conservationists bidding to save one of the UK's "red-listed" endangered bird species have hatched 26 chicks.

The black-tailed godwits - which have fewer than 60 UK nests - are being hand-reared, in the joint RSPB and Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT) scheme.

The majority of the birds are found in the Nene Washes and the Ouse Washes on the Cambridgeshire and Norfolk border.

The ground-nesting birds are vulnerable to spring flooding and predators.

Staff from Project Godwit were granted a licence from Natural England to collect 32 eggs, which were incubated at WWT's Welney centre on the Ouse Washes in a method known as "headstarting".

Staff at the WWT Welney centre are hand-rearing the chicks until they are old enough to be homed outside.

Tiger Amba has been left on her own after Shepreth Wildlife Park took the "heartbreaking decision" to put male tiger Rana, 18, to sleep on Friday.

He'd been suffering from chronic arthritis for two years and his legs had "finally reached the end", park director Rebecca Willer said.

"It was clear to absolutely everybody, that in his last week his legs were no longer allowing him to have the life he previously had enjoyed."

Since Rana's death, Amba has been "craving the attention and affection" of staff and has "reverted back to her childhood behaviour", when she was hand-reared and liked human companionship, Miss Willers said.

They're not sure if Amba is missing Rana, as initially the pair didn't get on too well, but in the weeks leading up to Rana's death they had become much closer.

    The were head-rubbing and chuffing.

A tiger "chuff" or "prusten" is thought to be an alternative to purring, Miss Willers explained.

Asked if she thought Amba knew the end was near for Rana, she said: "We just don't know. It could just be that they were both getting older and didn't feel like arguing anymore."

Staff are working hard to keep Amba's mind active and alert without Rana, but they are also monitoring her health.

At almost 19 years of age, she also has some problems with mobility and having seen how arthritis affected Rana, her future health and wellbeing is paramount, the park said.

A paedophile who sexually abused a toddler in the back of a van has seen his 22-year sentence extended to 26 years after an appeal by the Attorney General's office.
