    Worries about the impact of the planned new high-speed rail link on Warwickshire , externalwill be discussed at the House of Lords later.

    Warwickshire County Council will appear before the HS2 Lord's Committee after it put in a petition for changes to legislation.

    The first stage of HS2 is due to run from London to Birmingham and cut through part of Warwickshire.

    Tackling child sexual exploitation (CSE) needs to remain a priority for all partners, the chair of Coventry's safeguarding children's board, has said.

    The board's report into the sexual exploitation of five children found the girls were exploited, intimidated and subjected to "appalling violence".

    Janet Mokades said the review "reveals the failure of key services" but also considers recent changes in practice and "hails improvements" in the investigation of CSE.

  7. Pets abandoned so owners can go on holidaypublished at 13:29 British Summer Time 12 July 2016

    More than 700 pets were abandoned by their owners in the West Midlands last year, the RSPCA says. 

    Reasons are thought to include owners failing to find anyone to look after their pet while they are away on holiday. 

    Supt Simon Osborne said: “People often think that Christmas is the time we see the most abandoned animals - but it is actually the summer".

  8. Emergency services 'deal with incident'published at 13:22 British Summer Time 12 July 2016

    Emergency services are dealing with an incident at Coventry, the Network Rail website says, external.

    This is causing delays of up to 60 minutes to journeys to, from and through the station. Some trains will be diverted via Stafford.

    Disruption is expected to continue until 15:00.

    A barber has joined a collective of men's hairdressers trying to help raise awareness about the prevention of suicide.

    The "Lions Barber Collective"  trains hairdressers to "recognise, talk, listen and advise" clients about mental health when they're in the chair.

    Matt Robinson, who runs Mr Robinson's in Rugby, says you can easily spot someone who needs to talk.

    A woman has been treated for a broken foot following a non-stop collision in the town.

    It happened i Nuneaton on Avenue Road, outside the Esso garage, last Friday night, but the car drove off without stopping.

    Warwick Council says it's reviewing the frequency of bin clearing in the district and recent complaints from residents in Heathcote will inform it.

    Residents from the village, near Leamington, say overflowing bins, cleaned every fortnight, are a health hazard.
