    Residents living near to a site south of Stratford where a bypass is planned, external say they have concerns over future flooding in the area.

    Councillors recently gave the green light for a new bridge over the River Avon to accommodate the road connecting Evesham Road and Shipston Road, adding it would bring many positive benefits. 

    But Caroline Watson, from the Stratford Residents Action Group, fears "upsetting the floodplain by putting in concrete piles".

    Coventry Blaze have signed a "big, tough boy" in the form of Canadian forward Garrett Klotz, according to head coach Danny Stewart.

    A grant of nearly £300,000 will be used to help steer military veterans living in Warwickshire "away from criminality".

    Part of the Armed Forces Covenant fund cash will provide a helpline service for armed service veterans.

    A government report in 2014 estimated 3-7% of prisoners in England and Wales had military backgrounds.

    A reduction in express trains to London could have a negative impact on the multimillion-pound Friargate development, according to Coventry City Council leader George Duggins.

    The department for transport is looking at an idea to speed up express services by missing out intermediate stations such as Coventry, external and Birmingham International. 

    But Mr Duggins says: "You're effectively taking the tools away to enable us to do the job. 

    "It is about the economic well being of the region."

    He said other councils in the area and the West Midlands combined Authority would "speak with the same voice" on the issue.

  12. Recruitment under way for Warwickshire PCC deputypublished at 12:12 British Summer Time 13 July 2016

    Warwickshire's police and crime commissioner, Philip Seccombe, has begun the recruitment process for his deputy.

    Mr Seccombe was elected to the post earlier this year, external, replacing Ron Ball who had stood down, and says "applicants need not be from a political or a policing background". 

    The role of deputy commands an annual salary of £40k and applications must be received by 12:00 on Friday 29 July.

  16. Stratford bypass plans given go-ahead by councillorspublished at 11:05 British Summer Time 13 July 2016

    A bypass designed to cope with increased traffic from a planned 3,500-home development at Long Marston Airfield has been approved as part of Stratford District Council's Core Strategy, external.

    Dubbed the South Western Relief Road, it will connect Evesham Road and Shipston Road, crossing the River Avon above a disused railway bridge.
