  5. Hospital fire safety work to run into millionspublished at 09:03 British Summer Time 31 August 2016

    BBC Midlands Today

A £380m hospital which opened 10 years ago may have been constructed without adequate fire protection, a safety review has revealed.

University Hospital Coventry is undergoing remedial work because its structures "were not as robust" as originally planned.

BBC Midlands Today's Health Correspondent Michele Paduano says the cost will be in the millions, but it won't come from the public purse.

    Quote Message

The hospital has said that they are not going to bear any of the cost. There was a suggestion the cost of this to this particular hospital could be as much as £47m for Skansa, but the issue really is one of time and actually sorting the problem out

It's a matter of managing it really well with the medical staff, who've done a fantastic job so far and hopefully I'll be able to get out on the pitch sooner rather than later.
