    The trust that runs University Hospital in Coventry and Rugby St Cross says they will have plans in place to "minimise disruption" and ensure "services remain safe" during the expected industrial action by junior doctors.

    George Eliot Hospital in Nuneaton says it will "deploy senior and consultant medical staff" to cover junior doctors' duties.

    Medical leaders have criticised the proposed series of five-day strikes as the row over a new contract intensifies.  

    But Mark Porter, BMA chairman and consultant anaesthetist at the University Hospital in Coventry, said staff on duty would be more senior than those they might normally have seen and that patients "should not be concerned".

    Wasps Netball has announced the signing of England international Natalie Haythornwait.

    The 24-year-old becomes the team's ninth signing ahead of the new Superleague season which starts in February.

    The two Sky Blues transfer deadline day signings, Andre Wright and Jamie Sterry, are set to be involved in The City's League One fixture at Fleetwood Town tomorrow.

    Research which exposes the effect of air pollution on the lungs of people in the West Midlands is to be discussed at an international congress this weekend. 

    A study into the impact of domestic coal use in the 1950s found people exposed to it in Coventry were twice as likely to die from a respiratory condition than those in cleaner areas.

    Coal consumption in Coventry in that period was amongst the highest in the country and the data underlines the impact of air pollution on diseases such as COPD. 

    The data will be discussed at the European Respiratory Society's International Congress in London from tomorrow.
