  1. Paramedic calls for prison sentences for attackerspublished at 17:50 British Summer Time 4 October 2016

    A West Midlands Ambulance paramedic says the courts aren't tough enough with people who attack members of the emergency services. 

    Mick Duggan, who'd been attacked in the past, thinks prison should be mandatory, with a minimum sentence of 12 months.

    He says a certain level of abuse is expected from people with metal health issues, but others cross a line.

    The food's been donated in the spirit of Langar, a Sikh tradition dating back 500 years of feeding the homeless and needy.

    Being late for your own funeral in Coventry could cost your loved ones £158 every 15 minutes until it gets under way.

    The proposed charge - also levied at overrunning services - is part of a raft of planned price hikes for burials and cremations in the city, external, including a 50% surcharge for being cremated at the weekend.

    Cremation, set to rise 15% to £737 on weekdays, would leap to £1106 on Saturdays.   

    Coventry City Council says the rises are to cover costs of running bereavement services and to bring fees and charges in line with surrounding local authorities. 

    The increases, if approved, would take effect from 1 November this year, with more following every year from 2018 until 2021.

    Artist Director of the Royal Shakespeare Company, Greg Doran, said William Shakespeare would have to break the mould if he were to create a character aping Donald Trump.

    Speaking at the Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference in Stratford-upon-Avon, Mr Doran said not one character in the playwright's extensive body of work could quite lend itself to being an original incarnation of the Republican candidate.

    England have won their warm-up match against the Bangladesh Cricket Board Select XI by four wickets. 

    Captain Jos Buttler hit an unbeaten 80 as they chased down the hosts score of 309 with 23 balls remaining.

  11. Colours of Royal Fusiliers paraded for last timepublished at 15:36 British Summer Time 4 October 2016

    The colours of the 2nd Battalion of Fusiliers will be paraded in Warwick for the final time during the annual Fusilier Veterans' parade on 9 October.

    The battalion, which has been in existence since the 17th Century, was merged with the 1st Battalion in 2014 as part of army cuts.

    Many former Second Battalion members from across the country are due to attend the parade, officiated by the Army's Chaplain General.

    At the end of the parade the colours will be laid up in St Mary's Church, Warwick, never to be used again.

    Wasps' Sam Jones is on his way back to the club after sustaining an injury in training with the England Rugby side.

    The club says they'll have more information once the player has been assessed.

    The flanker was one of seven uncapped players named in England coach Eddie Jones' 37-man training squad ahead of the autumn Tests.

  15. Lorry driver who died in M6 crash namedpublished at 14:06 British Summer Time 4 October 2016

    Police have named a lorry driver, external who died on the M6 in north Warwickshire last week as Martin Buzoianu, from Stoke-on Trent.

    The 47-year-old died when the lorry he was driving collided with another lorry and two cars on the southbound carriageway on Thursday, 29 September.

    Police say they're still investigating the collision and would like to hear from any witnesses.

    A major cable fire on Kilburn railway viaduct has led to a complete cancellation of train services in and out of London Marylebone, Network Rail said.

    Trains on the Chiltern Line through Warwick Parkway and Leamington are severely affected, with a limited service running to the outskirts of London where passengers need to change on to the Underground
