    Thousands turned out to watch X-Factor singer Fleur East switch on Coventry's Christmas lights.

    It marked the start of free parking for late-night Christmas shoppers every Wednesday.

    Lead singer of The Selecter, Pauline Black, has received her honorary doctorate at a graduation ceremony at Coventry University.

    BBC Coventry & Warwickshire presenter, Stuart Linnell - who himself received an honorary Master of Arts degree in 1999 - tweeted a picture of them both.

    An absolute gem. That's how the discovery of a series of rare wall paintings, dating back to the 16th century, has been described. 

    They are thought to have been hidden by Shakespeare's Father, in a chapel in Stratford-Upon-Avon. 

    It's just one of a handful of sites in Europe where work of this kind has survived so completely. Our reporter Sarah Falkland will be there for us, from 18:30 on BBC1.

    Police investigating a house fire in Coventry say they're looking into the possibility it might have been started deliberately.

    The fire started last night in a Pine Tree avenue in the Tile Hill area of the city.

    Sixteen firefighters tackled the blaze and rescued a man who'd suffered a cardiac arrest.

    He's now being treated in hospital for serious injuries.

    Late and cancelled trains, overcrowded carriages - these are some of the complaints from rail passengers travelling on London Midland services into and out of Birmingham. 

    One commuter told BBC WM: "It seems like it's been weeks since I got a on a train that was actually on time, which if you've got children to pick up the other end, you're often on a very tight time scale to get there."

    Electricity supplies have been restored to about 1,700 homes in the Nuneaton area after a power cut this morning.

    One school in the town, Michael Drayton Junior School has had to close today after it was left without heating and hot water.

    But Warwickshire County Council says it'll be open as usual tomorrow.

    It's Philip Hammond's first Autumn Statement since his move from foreign secretary to chancellor of the exchequer.  

    I've been looking at what his announcements mean to us living and working in the Midlands.

    A recent survey by Midlands Connect, a collaboration of 28 councils and 10 local enterprise partnerships across the East and West Midlands, suggests a quarter of local businesses would consider relocating elsewhere in the country if there's no improvement in connectivity.

    He promised more details of road improvements would be announced in the Midlands by Transport Secretary Chris Grayling within the next few days.

    But the most ambitious individual transport initiative is a £5m Rail Hub which will, among others things, enable 10 more train services every hour through Birmingham's New Street station, the cross roads of the rail network.

    A man's being treated in hospital for serious injuries after suffering a cardiac arrest during a house fire in Coventry yesterday. 

    The firefighters who rescued him from the blaze in Pine Tree Avenue in Tile Hill had to perform CPR on him at the scene. 

    West Midlands police have confirmed they're investigating the cause of the fire which happened yesterday evening.

  16. Autumn Statement: 'The devil's in the detail'published at 14:52 Greenwich Mean Time 23 November 2016

    Ian O'Donnell, chairman of the Coventry and Warwickshire Federation of  Small Businesses branch, said he was "concerned about the the devil in the detail."

    "I am concerned about the devil in the detail around tax changes around salary sacrifice, shares etc which will potentially affect small business owners who are using them for genuine reasons," he said.

    Anne Rose, head of tax at Warwickshire-based accountancy firm Burgis and Bullock, welcomed the government's investment in tackling the UK's productivity problem. 

    But she said:"The Midlands seems to have had an acknowledgement only compared to the continued investment in the Northern Powerhouse and London".

    Two Syrian refugee families are to be housed in Stratford-upon-Avon under the UK resettlement plan.

    The district council says most of the money being used to support the families is coming from the Home Office.
