    Diane Queen, 49, and daughter Azara, 26, said they helped and motivated each other to achieve their degrees in psychology and criminology from Coventry University.

    The pair, who have also started a life-coaching business together, said they both now planned to get a master's degree.

  4. Refugees raising money for homeless peoplepublished at 16:48 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2016

    Refugees from Syria are hosting a fundraising dinner to raise money for homeless people in Coventry.

    Working with the Coventry Refugee and Migrant Centre (CRMC), the refugees have organised the event as a "thank you to the city" for welcoming Syrians who are a starting a new life in England.

    Chef Adnan Khalil Omar (pictured in the centre), who's lived in the city with his wife and daughter since 2015, says he "wants to give something back" to the community "for the support we've received".

    Funds raised from the dinner, at St Peter's Centre in Hillfields, will go to the CRMC's Destitution Fund.

  5. Bus lane trial 'sending city back to the 1970s'published at 16:23 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2016

    A trial road scheme that removes a third of Coventry's bus lanes is only "looking after the car drivers" in the city, it has been claimed.

    The six-month project is looking into whether the lanes are needed, but blogger James Avery, who writes about cycling, says the six-month project is taking a "step back to the 1970s".

    He said: "There's no city in the world that has a successful transport network without having bus lanes.

    "They've got to be part of the mix".

    British Transport Police has been called to Atherstone railway station after reports pedestrians were walking over the tracks to avoid a flooded underpass.

    Engineers from Severn Trent Water have been at the scene looking at how to make the route accessible on foot again.

    Wasps lock Joe Launchbury has been banned for two weeks for kicking an opponent during England's win over Fiji, ruling him out of the remaining autumn internationals.  

    The incident occurred when Launchbury, 25, tried to kick away the ball at the base of a ruck but made contact with Fiji centre Asaeli Tikoirotuma.

    The ban rules him out of England's Tests against Argentina and Australia.

    The self-proclaimed "best friends" who live, study and work together have achieved degrees in psychology and criminology from Coventry University.

  10. British insurers: 'Give us driverless car data'published at 14:19 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2016

    The insurance industry is calling on carmakers to provide more data showing who was at fault in accidents involving driverless vehicles. 

    The insurers say drivers need to be able to prove that they're not at fault if the technology goes wrong.

    Coventry is one of four cities chosen to test the technology, with trials due to start next year.

  12. Residents evacuated over 'suspicious substance' findpublished at 13:31 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2016

    People living on Bolingbroke Road in the Stoke area of Coventry are back in their homes after they were evacuated following the discovery of "suspicious substances" in a house, police say. 

    Firefighters were attending a report of a fire at an unoccupied property when they contacted police, who searched the home and found what was thought to be crack cocaine.

    The road was closed for a number of hours while a specialist team from the fire service examined the house.

    Photographer Chris Reeve took these aerial images showing the scale of the proposed development site on land formerly occupied by Jaguar.

    The planning application for the 40,000sqm proposal has been recommended for approval by the council, which hopes the company moving in will create 1,600 jobs.

    Jim O'Boyle, the councillor in charge of city development, said it was a "multi-national organisation".

    The councillor in charge of city development says Coventry can't afford to turn down more than a thousand jobs by rejecting plans for a huge distribution warehouse at Lyons Park, the site of the old Jaguar factory.

    Cllr Jim O'Boyle said the investment by a "multi-national organisation" would amount to £120m and mean the "biggest influx of jobs into the city in one-fell-swoop in well over a decade" - and it would be "wrong" to reject it.

    Councillors will discuss the application at planning committee , externalon Thursday.  

    The identity of the would-be occupant has not been announced.

    A number of city bus lanes are to be suspended from January as part of a six-month trial says the city council.

    The authority has confirmed the move following a proposal by leader George Duggins earlier this year. 

    Details of the trial will be debated at cabinet, external at the end of the month.

    A country lane near Wibtoft in Rugby was closed for four days after fly-tippers dumped a large pile of rubbish - including piles of asbestos. 

    Specialist contractors were hired to clear the debris from Penn Lane, says the council.

    The mess also included car tyres and and a fridge.
