Well, the Alexandra Colliery was one of three in the area operated by Wyken Collieries Ltd, which started to extract coal from the Warwickshire Coalfield in 1862.

The Alexandra and Wyken Collieries were the first to open and when the Wyken site was worked out by 1881, miners moved to Alexandra until it too became exhausted by 1919.

The third, and last, Craven Colliery, closed in 1927.

  17. Police payout and apology over 999 caller's deathpublished at 18:41 Greenwich Mean Time 5 January 2017

Police failed to respond properly to a plea for help from a woman who died hours after she phoned 999, a force has admitted, revealing a payout to her family.

Luisa Mendes' body was found in a property in Leamington Spa in 2012.

Warwickshire Police says it has apologised to her family for "mistakes" in the run up to her death following her allegation of abuse. The circumstances had been subject to an Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) inquiry, which found an officer was not dispatched until 24 hours after receiving a 999 call.

The force says Ms Mendes' family, who live in Portugal, has received a "full and final settlement", adding "the response to her call for assistance was not delivered to the expected and usual high standards".

It said of "mistakes in our contact" with Ms Mendes "our aim is to ensure that every possible measure is put in place to identify and support vulnerable people".

An inquest heard her death was caused by a rupture to her spleen - "a result of a deliberate application of force by a third party".
