  1. Murder trial: Dead woman's neighbour heard 'head hitting wall'published at 18:00 Greenwich Mean Time 5 January 2017

    A neighbour of a woman allegedly murdered by her ex and his partner heard moaning and the sound of a head hitting a wall on the day she died, a court has heard.

    Michael Davenport told jurors at Warwick Crown Court the sounds appeared to be coming from the bathroom - where Bethany Hill's body was later found by police.

    He said there had previously been terrible anti-social behaviour at the one-bedroom flat in Stratford that Bethany shared with the accused, Jack Williams, 21, and 23-year-old Kayleigh Woods.  

    Both deny her murder. The trial continues.

    Talks are under way for Warwickshire to stage part of the Aviva Women's Cycling Tour for a second time, the county council says.

    An evaluation of the event last year showed a boost to the local economy of more than £3m, with an estimated 75,000 spectators watching the race through the county.

  3. Family 'devastated' at loss of woman, 82, killed in van crashpublished at 17:44 Greenwich Mean Time 5 January 2017

    The pedestrian killed by a van in Bidford-on-Avon on Tuesday has been named by police, external as Clare Wyatt, 82, of Tower Hill.

    Her family says they're "devastated" to lose the mother of seven, grandmother of 17 and great-grandmother of four.

    They said she was the "matriarch and rock" to the family.

    Fire crews worked to release a person trapped in a car after a crash on the A46 Stratford to Alcester Road earlier.

    The road was temporarily blocked at about 12:40 for emergency services to clear the scene.

  8. Government millions 'to help deliver' Stratford garden villagepublished at 16:18 Greenwich Mean Time 5 January 2017

    A total of £3m is to be given to Stratford District Council this year to help deliver a new garden village in Long Marston, says local MP Nadhim Zahawi.

    He said the government received a total of 51 bids from councils for the funding and Stratford was one of 14 successful applicants.

    In addition, the council will also receive £215,409 from a scheme designed to help communities affected by high levels of second home ownership.

    More than 200 emergency services workers will take part in a test exercise at the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-upon-Avon on Sunday.

    Officers from Warwickshire and West Mercia Police will join the ambulance and fire services to test the response of staff to a firearms incident in a busy place.

    James Price, Hazardous Area Response Team manager for West Midlands Ambulance Service, says "Exercise Titus", which has been three months in the planning, is "not based on any threat or intelligence."

    The exercise, he says, will be self-contained within the grounds of the RSC, and disruption will be kept to a minimum.

    A jury has heard how Bethany Hill spoke to her father hours before her death and asked whether she could move back home.

    Jack Williams, 21 and his girlfriend, Kayleigh Woods, 23, both deny murdering the 20-year-old who was found dead with neck injuries at the flat they all shared in Stratford-upon-Avon.  

    The trial at Warwick Crown Court continues.

    Sir Tim Barrow, who was educated in Warwickshire, is appointed to replace Sir Ivan Rogers at the UK's ambassador to the EU.

    Sir Tim - the UK's ambassador in Moscow from 2011 to 2015 - attended Warwick School as well as Arnold Lodge in Leamington Spa.

    Downing Street described the former ambassador to Russia, who will now play a key role in the UK's Brexit talks, as a "seasoned and tough negotiator".

    Sir Ivan's exit, which came earlier than planned, sparked a row after his resignation note criticised "muddled thinking" from ministers.

    Two teenagers were assaulted in Nuneaton by a group of men as they walked through an underpass on New Year's Day, police say., external

    The attackers, thought to be between 10 and 15 in number, left one of the 18-year-old victims needing hospital treatment for head injuries.

    Police believe a bottle may have been used during the assault which happened as the teenagers approached The Crystal Palace pub on Gadsby Street.

    A feasibility study into a new railway station for Nuneaton says there's a "strong business case" for it.

    Warwickshire County Council is backing a new station in the Galley Common / Stockingford area of Nuneaton and will discuss plans at a meeting next week. , external

    The study found a new station would "assist in meeting the needs of the Draft Nuneaton and Bedworth Local Plan" that envisages significant growth in the Nuneaton urban area.

    Both Jaguar and Land Rover brands saw vehicle sales rise last year, according to data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders. 

    Jaguar sold almost 35,000 cars in 2016,  an increase of more than 10,000 on the figures for the year before.

    Land Rover had an even better 12 months, selling almost 80,000 vehicle - almost 13,000 more than 2015. 

    But sales of Aston Martin dropped 4%,  with just over 900 cars sold.
