  1. Warwick meets Keele in Quidditch Cuppublished at 13:45 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2017

    A team from the University of Warwick will meet the Keele Squirrels in Rugeley as 32 teams vie to win the British Quidditch Cup in March. 

    The sport's governing body Quidditch UK says the sport, conjured up on the pages of Harry Potter, is valued for being "highly inclusive of athletic minorities... including women and the LGBTQ+ community".

    A fee of £6 for adults and £3 for children is being proposed for the World Rugby Hall of Fame which could come into force from the beginning of April.

    Councillors will consider whether to offer discounts or exemptions for local residents at a meeting on 7 February.

    A report prepared for the council said introducing a charge would make the museum a more attractive destination for group travel operators.

    Coventry University researchers have been working with young scientists as part of the BBC's Terrific Scientific campaign to see whether it's possible to learn to love bitter green vegetables like kale.

    Children were separated into two groups. One was asked to eat kale every day for two weeks, the other to eat raisins.

    The study found that some children in the kale group began to like the vegetable more. Those who ate raisins were less keen  - see the results here.

    The test also identified a group of "supertasters" - those more sensitive to strong-tasting food - who disliked their greens as much as before.

    The MP for Stratford-upon-Avon, Nadhim Zahawi, is calling on Donald Trump to reconsider his decision to ban visitors to the United States from seven mainly Muslim countries. 

    The Conservative, who was born in Iraq, said he would be banned by the ruling, but the White House has confirmed he can enter America as he has British citizenship.

    In an emergency debate in the Commons he said every country had the right to make its own immigration policy but he worried that President's Trump executive order played into the hands of those who wanted to see more terrorist attacks.

    He noted that members of so-called Islamic State have started referring to the order as "the blessed ban" and argued that it proved the US was "seeking to destroy Islam".

    A 14-year-old girl has been taken to hospital after being hit by a car on Sandy Lane in Coventry, close to the junction of Chetton Avenue.

    The ambulance service says she has no obvious injuries. She has been taken to hospital as a precaution.

    It happened about 08:30.

    A pension scam victim who has lost most of his life savings is urging other investors not to be fooled by cold-calls.

    Richard Spence from Rugby lost £160,000 after he was contacted by phone three years ago. 

    He believed he was transferring his pension pot to a reputable company. In fact his money was being stolen. 

    According to the Pensions Regulator, he's one of hundreds of thousands of people who've fallen victim to this type of scam.

    Firefighters worked for 45 minutes to free a driver from the wreckage of his car after he crashed with a tractor near the village of Bentley yesterday.

    West Midlands Ambulance Service says the man, in his 20s, was taken to hospital with "potentially serious injuries" after the incident on the B4116, Coleshill Road, close to Dudley Wood Farm at about 16:30.

    petition demanding President Trump's UK state visit be called off had been signed by nearly 13,000 people in Coventry and Warwickshire this afternoon.

    It has been signed by more than a million people across the country, with numbers rising rapidly since a US clampdown on immigration came into effect over the weekend, prompting protests in the US and Britain.

    A teenager who was awarded a Radio 1 Teen Hero Award in recognition of her fundraising efforts has died aged 15. 

    Rosie Abbott from Coventry raised around £20,000 for numerous causes, including the Teenage Cancer Trust, Make a Wish and the Little Princess Trust, which provides wigs to children who lose their hair due to illness and treatments.

    Her family described Rosie as "beautiful, inspirational and courageous" in their online tributes.  

    Radio 1 posted a message on social media, external saying: "Rosie was inspirational - sending our love and thoughts to her family."
