The Liberal Democrats' candidate to become the first elected Mayor of the West Midlands says she doesn’t think people voting to leave the EU in this region "thought through all the implications of a very complex set of factors".
Launching her campaign, Beverley Nielsen put keeping access to the EU single market a core part of her strategy, arguing that jobs in the region depended on it. Voters in the council areas which will elect the Mayor returned a majority to leave in the EU referendum in July.
Ms Nielson also announced a £1bn "human goldmine" fund to help young people into work with measures like free bus travel for the under-25s and a regularly-published scorecard on her performance if elected in May.
Andrew Street is running for the Conservatives, Sion Simon is the Labour candidate, James Burn is running on a Green party ticket and Pete Durnell represents the UKIP bid.
