    Singer Maggie O'Hara joined celebrations at a care home in Leamington Spa marking Dame Vera Lynn's 100th birthday. She entertained guests by singing a selection of wartime favourites.

    Priors House in Leamington Spa joined care homes across the country in a singalong rendition of "We'll Meet Again" to mark Dame Vera's centenary.

    Care firms have cancelled contracts with 95 UK councils , saying they cannot deliver services for the amount they are being paid, a BBC Panorama investigation has found.  

    The Local Government Association (LGA), which represents councils across England and Wales said it was the result of "historic under-funding" and an ageing population.

    Leader of Warwickshire County Council Izzi Seccombe, who also speaks for the LGA, said: "We have warned that the combination of the historic under-funding of adult social care, and the significant pressures of an ageing population and the national living wage, are pushing the care provider market to the brink of collapse.

    Coventry is to become one of the first ten Heritage Action Zones in the UK.

    The city is among 10 places in the country to benefit from funding.

    The zones, launched by Historic England, will see neglected buildings restored and existing conservation areas improved.

    It's hoped the Heritage Action Zone designation could provide an economic boost by encouraging regeneration and enabling access to more funding.

    A 44-year-old passenger on the bus that crashed in Coventry this morning said he's been left "completely shocked" by the incident.

    John Tague told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire he stood up as the bus was approaching the roundabout in Keresley "and that's when I just went flying".

    "I came down to make sure the driver was fine," he said. "I honestly thought he was really hurt."

    "I knew there was a lad on the bus as well, but he dived straight out of the back door."

    "It's devastating what's happened," he said.

    Residents of Priors house in Leamington Spa are taking part in a nationwide singalong to celebrate the 100th birthday of forces sweetheart Dame Vera Lynn .

    One of those who'll be singing a rendition of We'll Meet Again, Marian Bridson, said Dame Vera had bought much comfort to many during the war.

    "We used to go in Anderson shelters, and when she came on it used to light us up - she was marvellous," she said. 

    Another, Esme Taylor, said the song "reminds you of old friends, things you used to do together and enjoy, and being part of the community".

    The labrador, Smithy, has 3,200 followers on social media under the guide of @WMPcsidogsmithy, set up by his handler, Coventry officer PC Terry Arnett.

    Over the last eight years the pair have been involved in hundreds of investigations including the hunt for Nicola Payne , and the abduction of five-year-old April Jones from Wales.

    Smithy was originally a guide dog before entering the force's dedicated dog training unit in Balsall Heath, Birmingham and will now live with Mr Arnett as a family pet.

    The driver of a Land Rover was treated for shock after being hit by a bus which then crashed into a house, says the ambulance service.

    A fire officer at the scene of the crash said the ceilings in all of the rooms of the house had collapsed and officers were working alongside structural engineers to make the building safe.

    An exercise involving emergency services and the Environment Agency is taking place around Long Itchington and Draycote Water.

    Services are being tested on their response to major floods and the council is warning residents not to become alarmed at the amount of emergency responders in the area.

    Did you know Chuck Berry's only number one - My ding-a-ling - was recorded in Coventry?

    The guitarist and songwriter, recognised as one of the fathers of rock 'n' roll, has died aged 90.

    The ditty, external , replete with double entendre, was recorded in in 1972 when Berry was performing at Coventry's Locarno Ballroom as part of the Lanchester Arts Festival.

    Pete Chambers, from the Coventry Music Museum said "It was probably the worst thing he ever did, a novelty record" but "it was his only number one here and in America, and we love the fact that it was recorded here in Coventry".

    Structural engineers are working with fire crews to secure the property damaged in this morning's bus crash.

    Duty officer in charge of the operation for West Midlands Fire service, Bob Mair, said some of the property's lower foundations seem to have been dislodged. 

    "We need to ensure that we've shored-up the building to prevent any collapse," he said.
