    A man was left hanging by his seat belt for 30 minutes after a crash in Wolvey yesterday.

    Three people were hurt in the two-car collision at about 13:30, with a 21 year old having to be cut free from one of the vehicles.

    Emergency crews worked to free the 48-year-old man who was left hanging upside down in a BMW. He suffered minor injuries, the ambulance service said.

    Three people were taken to hospital.

  2. Picky model maker gets his teeth into Wimbledonpublished at 09:12 British Summer Time 4 July 2017

    A tennis fan has painstakingly constructed a replica of Wimbledon's iconic Centre Court using 12,000 toothpicks.

    Shaminder Singh, 31, spent about 40 hours a week for ten months putting together his creation at his home in Wyken, Coventry.

    "After finishing work in the morning at 06:00 I just have a couple of hours sleep and then I get back on to this for around four hours and then another four hours later in the day," he said.

    Mr Singh hopes to raise money for charity with the model.

    The model-maker has previously built a tiny Old Trafford and a plastic miniature stadium in memory of Australian batsman Phillip Hughes.

    Concerns have been raised by school and college staff that the so-called Prevent duty, external - part of the government's counter-terrorism strategy - is increasing stigmatisation of Muslim students.

    A report, by Coventry, Durham and Huddersfield universities found that the strategy, introduced two years ago, may be making Muslim students feel "singled out" and damaging their willingness to share genuine concerns about extremism.

    The Prevent duty, introduced in July 2015, required "specified authorities" such as schools, colleges, prisons and NHS Trusts to have "due regard to the need to have to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism".

    One of the researchers, Dr Joel Busher, from Coventry University, said: "Widespread and sometimes acute concerns about possible feelings of stigmatisation among Muslim students highlight an urgent need for systematic evaluation of how, if at all, the duty has impacted on student experiences."

    The victim suffered a broken shoulder after being attacked outside Saints No More bar in Newdegate Street at about 23:30.

    Two men aged 68 and 21, both from Nuneaton, were arrested in relation to the incident and both have been released while enquiries continue.

    Parents in Warwickshire have been told they could be fined if children are repeatedly late for school, according to a newspaper report.

    Schools and councils in Essex, Hampshire and the West Midlands are extending the £60 fixed penalties issued for missing school to include persistent lateness, The Sunday Times says.

    Warwickshire County Council's guidance says that if pupils are often late - arriving more than half an hour after the register is taken - families could face financial penalties.

    Tom Bennett, the Government's behaviour tsar, said sanctions such as litter collection or the removal of chewing gum could be imposed on pupils, with the fines being a last resort.

    Louise Bennett, who heads Coventry and Warwickshire's Chamber of Commerce said the infrastructure overhaul was essential "if we are to deliver on the ambitious plans we collectively have for the future".
