    A warning that social media platform Twitter is an unreliable version of how people are really thinking and feeling has been issued by an academic from the University of Warwick.

    In a new paper, external Dr Eric Jensen, from the university's Sociology department, acknowledges that studies based on Twitter data are "particularly alluring" to researchers and the media.

    But he says there's is no evidence that social media content shared on Twitter is a truthful reflection of how its users feel and that users are not representative of the general population.

  12. Council 'co-operating' after man dies in bin lorry collisionpublished at 17:14 British Summer Time 8 September 2017

    A health and safety team from the city council has been sent to the site of a crash in Coventry in which one man died after his vehicle crashed with a bin lorry.

    A statement from the city council confirmed three of their staff, on the lorry, had been taken to hospital and said they're "co-operating fully" with emergency services.

    The driver of the lorry, believed to be in his 20s, was cut free from the vehicle after suffering a serious leg injury and suspected pelvic injury, said the ambulance service.

    Two passengers in the lorry, a man in his 40s and one in his 30s, were treated for a minor hand and leg injuries.

  13. Could rehabilitation stop reoffending?published at 16:57 British Summer Time 8 September 2017

    "Deferred prosecution" is being called for by an MP who has led a review into the prison service in England and Wales.

    MP David Lammy's review, external finds the system is biased and discriminates in treatment of people from ethnic minority backgrounds.

    The Labour MP has made 35 recommendations, following a trial in the West Midlands where low-level offenders were allowed to "defer" prosecution and opt for a rehabilitation programme before entering a plea.

    Mr Lammy says the trial "produced impressive results and should be rolled out across the country".

    Operation Turning Point, was trialled from 2011 for four years, to those facing prosecution who had no more than one conviction.

    The government says it will "look carefully" at the recommendations.

    A Warwickshire mum is laughing off her embarrassment after signing up for a charity trek up Mount Kilimanjaro for Myton Hospice - thinking it was in Wales.

    Nikki Barnett from Nuneaton said because she couldn't pronounce the name of the mountain "I thought it was probably somewhere in Wales".

    "It was a neighbour who pointed out it was actually in Tanzania" she said.

    Nikki and daughter are still taking on the challenge to raise money for the hospice that looked after her sister Jill, who died of breast cancer three years ago.
