    The Bears are 145 for 7 in their first innings, in reply to Somerset's 282 all out.

  2. Tributes paid to man killed in car crashpublished at 16:00 British Summer Time 6 September 2017

    The family of a man who died following a collision on the M42 has said he "will be missed by family, friends, neighbours and members of the community".

    Raymond 'Ray' Goode, 84, who lived in both Coventry and Spain, died following the crash last month.

    Ray's wife Jane was also injured and is recovering in hospital.

    A Peugeot 307 was in collision with the Vauxhall Agila in which Mr Goode was travelling.

    The incident occurred at around 20:50 on the southbound carriageway near to junction 10.

    A 36-year-old man from Birmingham arrested following the incident on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving has been released under investigation.

  3. Coventry's new academy welcomes pupilspublished at 15:10 British Summer Time 6 September 2017

    Hundreds of pupils across Coventry are starting their first day of the new school year and for those at the new West Coventry Academy it's the first page in a new school history.

    It was created after the merger of the all-boys Woodlands and all-girls Tile Hill Wood.

    Some of the lessons will remain single sex, because research suggests the different genders do better in some subjects when taught apart.

    Headteacher Gina O'Connor says they've worked hard to make sure the school is as integrated as possible.

    Covert cameras will be used to catch fly-tippers in Coventry hot spots, following a 40% rise in cases in the last year.

    More than 3,300 cases were reported in the last 12 months, with Foleshill, Stoke and St Michaels wards being the worst affected.

    Abdul Khan, the deputy leader of the city council, told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire they have enough money to tackle the issue.

    Concerns are growing over the whereabouts of a 63-year-old man, external who went missing from his home in Hinckley on Monday night, police say.

    Robin Mills was reported missing from his address in Church Lane, Fenny Drayton, just after 6pm.

    His family spoke to him by phone that morning and he was later sighted walking his dog at 3pm on the same afternoon.

    Police say Robin suffers from epilepsy and is heavily reliant on his medication which he has not taken with him.

    Leicestershire police have asked the BBC to share the appeal in Staffordshire and Warwickshire media as they widen their search.

  8. Thousands of police officers lose jobs in cuts, figures showpublished at 12:55 British Summer Time 6 September 2017

    More than 2,000 officers have lost their jobs since to 2010, according to West Midlands Police Federation.

    They say this is because of £130m in budget cuts, the highest figure across the country.

    The federation have released a two-minute video highlighting the effects this has caused.

    Rugby Town drew with Coventry Sphinx and Coventry United drew against Rocester.

    Coventry's Director of Rugby Rowland Winter says the team can't wait to face Moseley at the Butts Park this weekend - they had a crowd of almost 3,000 for the same fixture last season.

    Coventry University is in the top 800 of the list which sees Oxford pip Cambridge to the top spot.

    A notorious burglar - who posed as a police officer to trick his way into victims' homes - has been jailed for more than nine years, external.

    John Casey, 52, from Birmingham, stole cash and bank cards during a series of distraction burglaries across the city as well as Coventry, Sandwell and other parts of the country.

    He pleaded guilty to nine burglaries - worth a total of more than £1,800 between 2013 and April this year - and was sentenced to a total of nine years and three months in prison.

    Cases of fly-tipping in Coventry have risen by 40% in the last 12 months, with more than 3,300 incidents being dealt with by the City Council.

    Councillors will meet later to look at ways they can tackle the problem.

    The leader of the Coventry Conservative group - Gary Ridley - says something needs to be done immediately.

    A historic roadside toll house where travellers paid for journeys along a Warwickshire road has been reopened after a major restoration project.

    Work on the Grade I listed building, built in 1814, included repairs to the stonework and a new roof.

    The Stratford Historic Buildings Trust raised £450,000 to pay for it.
