    Welling United are to auction the match ball from their FA Cup tie against Carlisle to raise money for those affected by the floods across Cumbria.

    About 1,000 homes in the region remain without power after Storm Desmond.

    The Welling United Supporters Association have already donated £522 from Sunday's second-round game to a fund set up to help the flood victims.

    Carlisle's players have also been helping with the clear-up operation after training today.

    But a company spokesman said once the clean up has begun, they will publish a timetable for resuming production.

    There will be a special carol concert at Wigton Auction Mart tomorrow at 19:00.

    An estimated 5,000 households and businesses forced out of their properties by flooding are to be given relief from council tax and business rates, the government's Cobra committee has agreed.

    Ministers were told that the situation on the ground was improving following the record rainfall seen at the weekend, but that emergency services remain on "high alert" because of the possibility of further wet weather in the days to come.

    Police say they've now confirmed the identity of a man found dead after he was seen falling into the flooded River Kent near Kendal.

    They've confirmed he was 78 and lived in the Staveley area, but because his death is not suspicious, they will not release his name.

    The case has been referred to the coroner, and we've asked if they will be making his name public.

  17. Prince Charles' charity gives £40,000 to flood fundspublished at 15:55

    The Prince's Countryside Fund has announced it's giving £10,000 to the Cumbria Community Foundation, external, and £30,000 to three farming charities.

    Director Claire Saunders said the flooding could be a catastrophic blow to small rural businesses.
