    The Pope has sent a message to the people of Cumbria. He says he's praying for those who have lost their homes or been injured, as well as their relatives and friends.

  7. £50m flood fund to be run by councilspublished at 12:22

    Here's the Chancellor's announcement in full: "I can today announce a £50m fund for families and businesses affected in the area. 

    "This will be administered by the local authorities to avoid some of the administrative problems that she (shadow first secretary of state, Angela Eagle) alludes to in her question.

    "And when it comes to rebuilding the infrastructure of Cumbria and Lancashire and other areas affected, we are assessing now the damage to the flood defences and the damage to the roads, and funds will be made available."

  11. Flood information hubs in Allerdalepublished at 11:58

    Welfare hubs have been set up in Cockermouth, Keswick and Flimby to help communities hit by the floods. 

    The hubs have been set up in conjunction with the county council and community organisations, external and are open from 09:00 to 17:00. They are at:

    - Christchurch, Sullart Street and Christchurch Rooms, South Street, Cockermouth

    - Packhorse Inn, Packhorse Court, Keswick

    - Methodist Chapel, West Lane, Flimby (opens at 10am)

  12. One flood warning remains in place for Cumbriapublished at 11:52

    The Environment Agency has announced that the following flood warnings are no longer in place:

    - The River Eden and Petteril at Carlisle, City Centre, Botcherby and Warwick Road Area

    -  The River Eden and Caldew at Carlisle, Devonshire Walk, West Coast Mainline, Bitts Park, Cricket Club 

    This means that just one flood warning remains for Keswick campsite, external.     

  13. Latest headlines: Some services begin to return to normal and NFU say more than 1,000 sheep deadpublished at 11:45

    Here's a round up of what's happening this morning:

    Some services are getting back to normal with many hospitals and health services running as normal and some roads re-opening

    - The National Farmers Union is estimating that more than 1,000 sheep have drowned in the flood. 

    - The Environment Agency says there is now just one flood warning in place for Cumbria.

    - Many bridges remain closed across the county, including Eden Bridge in Carlisle, which is closed for pedestrians and traffic.

  14. Farmers tell of pain over flooding damagepublished at 11:39

    Farmer Sarah Chaplin Brice, from Low Bridge End Farm at St John's in the Vale, said she had to restore access and infrastructure "before life begins again".  

    "We haven't got a fence left, we haven't got a gate left. I've got acres of gravel where we should have beautiful grass," she said.

    "Our farm road access is gone and the bridge goes to nowhere. Where do you go from here?"

    Cumbria County Council say that Middleton Hall Bridge is closed and is warning people to stop moving the signs and crossing anyway.

  17. Clean up in full swing in Cockermouthpublished at 11:07

    The extent of flooding on Cockermouth High Street can be seen in the top picture of the Oasis store, which was taken on Sunday.

    But as the below photo taken yesterday shows, the water has receded and the clean-up operation is in full swing.

  18. 'My house is without gas, electricity or water'published at 10:55

    Families affected by the flooding have been telling us of their struggles trying to get back to normal life.

    Homeowners have been given temporary relief from council tax but Helena Johnson from Carlisle says they should be exempt from other bills. 

    "I don't really see why I need to be paying for services that I'm not using or even getting at this point," she said. 

    "My house is without gas, electricity or water. I'm not going to be in my house for a minimum of six months, if not longer."
