  7. Croston: Warning over walking on raised banks beside riverspublished at 13:27

    Police are warning people not to walk along the raised banks beside rivers in Croston.

    There have been reports of pedestrians walking along watercourses at the rivers Yarrow, Douglas and Lostock. 

    Walking on them could hamper ongoing repair work and may put safety at risk, police added.

    Hundreds of properties in Cumbria lost power this morning as Storm Frank hit the county. Electricity Northwest says all but 100 have now had their electricity restored. 

    It has been raining heavily in places like Glenridding which has already been flooded three times this month. Mark McAlindon will have the latest from West Cumbria at 13:05 on BBC One.

    Three severe warnings, meaning there is a potential danger to life, remain in place in Croston, Lancashire, alongside four warnings in Cumbria that recommend taking action.

    An alternative aircraft has been identified to continue to drop sandbags into the breach at the River Douglas and is expected in Croston this afternoon.

    The Environment Agency has issued more flood warnings for Cumbria. There are now five:

    • River Ehen at Egremont, Bleach Green, Ennerdale Mill, Bridge End, Vale View, Wood Bank, Rugby Club.
    • River Greta at Keswick, Keswick Campsite, Rugby Club and Quinta.
    • Keswick Campsite
    • River Greta at Keswick, Fitz Park and Riverside Flats Areas  
    • River Eamont at Eamont Bridge, Kemplay Foot, Skirsgill Lane and Southwaite Green Mill
