  1. Poppi's mother: 'I have no explanation for what happened'published at 13:00 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January 2018

During the afternoon of 11 December 2012, Poppi's mother told the inquest her daughter threw herself back and screamed out.

She picked her up and rubbed her belly. There was a very bad smell and the contents of the nappy was brick-coloured.

Afterwards Poppi was all right, playing and socialising, she told last year's inquest.

In police statements, she said Poppi's father Paul went to bed and she slept downstairs.

A while later Paul came down and said about Poppi still being unwell and he would put her in his bed with him. Then he came down calling her saying she was not breathing.

The mother said: “I’ve no idea or explanation for what happened to Poppi. Last time I saw her was about 02:00 or 2:30.

“She was breathing heavily but I thought it was a cold.”

  2. Poppi Worthingon inquest: Poppi was 'bubbly and funny'published at 12:49 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January 2018

The evidence given by Poppi Worthington's mother during the inquest into her daughter's death is being summed up by the Cumbria coroner.

Among it was her description of Poppi as "alert, sociable, very alive, bubbly and funny" and she was generally in good health.

In February 2012 she had an overnight admission because of acute bronchiolitis. A little later there was diagnosis of conjunctivitis, then chicken pox.

Poppi normally went to bed at about 19:00 and woke between 05.30 and 06:00, she was the family’s alarm clock and usually the first to awake.

The family had been suffering from cold like symptoms.

On 11 December 2012 Poppi was feeling under the weather and slept for longer than normal when she had her nap.

Poppi Worthington's father Paul gave evidence early on in the inquest into his daughter's death.

Mr Worthington refused to answer 252 questions, citing rules protecting witnesses from incriminating themselves.

However, Cumbria coroner David Roberts said Mr Worthington (sketch below) should not be criticised for exercising his rights.

Today Mr Roberts said he had agreed for Mr Worthington to have a live link to him for the rest of the inquest so he could hear what was being said.

  4. Poppi Worthington inquest: Coroner 'not bound by previous findings'published at 12:23 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January 2018

Cumbria coroner David Roberts said it was a matter of public knowledge that two fact finding hearings were held in the family court in March 2014 and November 2015 following the death of Poppi Worthington.

In 2016, High Court family judge Mr Justice Peter Jackson said her father Paul Worthington "probably" sexually abused Poppi before her death.

Mr Roberts said he had considered whether it would be appropriate to admit the family court findings into his inquest.

He said none of the interested persons supported that and he chose not to do so.

He said: “The nature purpose and role of the inquest is different to that of the high court proceedings.”

Mr Roberts said: “I’m not bound by the findings of Judge Peter Jackson and have considered matters entirely afresh.”

Poppi died in 2012, in circumstances that have never been satisfactorily explained, with a first inquest lasting seven minutes and hearing no evidence because of legal restrictions after a High Court case.

Mr Roberts (pictured) began by saying: "This is the second inquest into the death of Poppi Iris Worthington. I opened this inquest on 18 March 2016 after having applied to the high court for an order quashing the first inquest."

A 44-year-old man slipped and suffered a severe ankle injury on Nethermost Pike.

Members of the Keswick team, helped by the RAF Leeming team which was training in the area, used special heat packs to warm the man up and prevent hypothermia.

Poor visibility meant helicopter support was not available, so he was taken down to Wythburn on a sledge, and taken to hospital by ambulance.
