    England captain Harry Kane is top dog in terms of goals scored at this year's World Cup after his hat-trick against Panama.

    Let's hope the roar of the crowds doesn't give him earache, like his canine namesake, from Nottingham.

    Eight-year-old Kane is part of a PDSA squad of injured pets named after World Cup footballers.

    The Staffie was treated at the charity's pet hospital in Nottingham for an ear problem.

    Other pets to feature in the PDSA’s World Cup side include a cat named Vardy, Messi the terrier and Ronaldo the cat.

    More than 50 cans and bottles of alcohol were confiscated from underage drinkers in Heanor last week, external.

    Derbyshire Police said the haul was seized from young people during patrols in the town's Market Place, Shipley Park and a supermarket on Wednesday.

    Police Community Support Officer Rio Lyons said: “We had reports from the community that some local school leavers were planning on getting together and drinking alcohol to celebrate.

    “We understand that young people may want to honour the end of their school life with their friends, but drinking under age is not only illegal but also has the potential to fuel anti-social behaviour and could put their safety at risk.”

    This year marks 100 years since World War One's deadliest explosion on British soil.

    On 1 July 1918, eight tonnes of explosives ignited at the Chilwell Munitions Factory, killing 134 people and injuring many more.

    Now footage of workers in the factory, from a year or two before the explosion, has been painstakingly restored by the Imperial War Museum.

    Incredibly, it lay hidden in a garden shed in Beeston until it was discovered by a BBC documentary team, fronted by Kate Adie, four years ago.

    The film will be shown tonight at St Mary’s Church, Attenborough, where most of the victims were buried in a mass grave.

    Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said it was a crash involving three vehicles between junctions 13 and 14, between the A511 for Ashby-de-la-Zouch and the A453 at Tonge.

    Three casualties were trapped and crews are cutting them free.

    The cost of lunch at Derbyshire's schools could be about to go up.

    The county council is proposing to increase the recommended selling price of meals by 10p to £2.10 at its nursery, primary and special schools and by 5p to £2.40 at its secondary schools.

    The authority said the switch - which would take effect from September - would be considered by the council's cabinet member for young people Alex Dale at a meeting on Friday.

    Knife and fork

    Pupils who receive free school meals would be unaffected and schools would retain the right to set their own prices if they prefer.

    If approved, it would be the first school meal price increase since 2015.

    Detectives are investigating a fight outside a pub in Nottingham which left a man with a serious head injury.

    They were called to the Top House in Bardney Drive, Bulwell, at about 18:30 yesterday.

    It's believed a number of men were involved.

    A 17-year-old's been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and remains in custody.

    A motorcyclist has suffered serious injuries in a crash in Mansfield Woodhouse this morning.

    Peafield Lane was closed between the A60 and Forest Road junctions after the collision, which didn't involve any other vehicles.

    The air ambulance was at the scene of the crash which happened at about 09:20.

    The road's expected to be shut for some time, Nottinghamshire Police said.

    Notts County chairman, Alan Hardy, has joined the criticism of BBC football presenter Gary Lineker's swearing on Twitter.

    Alan Hardy says the Match of the Day presenter, from Leicester, has a responsibility to his 7m followers, even to those too young to have their own Twitter account.

    "I know it's supposed to be a minimum 13 years but my kids, who are eight, nine and 10, often say, 'What're Alan Shearer's views?', 'Was it really a penalty?', 'What does Lineker think of that penalty?'" he said.

    "I'm not keen on them reading it when there's lots of F-bombs flying around."

    Lineker tweeted a swear word following Germany's 2-1 win over Sweden on Saturday.

    He's since tweeted, external: "To the tiny minority: I like swearing as it adds emphasis occasionally", adding "you can always unfollow" if it offends.

    Mary Berry has been named as the president of this year's Chatsworth Country Fair.

    She follows in the footstep of Olympics hero Jessica Ennis-Hill, broadcaster Alan Titchmarsh and popstar-turned-farmer JB Gill in being handed the position.

    She'll be putting on a baking display at the three-day event, which gets under way on 31 August, along with fellow Great British Bake-Off stars Paul Hollywood and Nadiya Hussain.

    This is how a new war memorial at Nottingham's Victoria Embankment could look.

    The monument will display the names of the 14,000 soldiers, sailors, airmen and civilians from Nottinghamshire who died during WW1.

    The memorial has been commissioned by the city and county councils who say while there are currently hundreds of individual memorials around the county, this is the first to bring all the names together in one place.

    About £50,000 still needs to be raised for the project and the councils have encouraged local businesses and residents to contribute, external.

    Colonel Tim Richmond, Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, said: “I believe this memorial which honours the fallen from our city and county in the Great War will be a fitting tribute to their sacrifice, bringing together the names from some 700 memorials, and some names which have never been recorded on a memorial, together with the county’s Roll of Honour which is online.

    "The details of all those who died will truly live for evermore.”

    A man has been arrested on suspicion of wounding and sexual assault, external after a woman was seriously injured at a house in Derby.

    Police said a 50-year-old man was found injured in Pittar Street, in the Stockbrook area, at about 14:50 on Saturday.

    The 33-year-old woman was found injured in a house in the same street a few minutes later.

    The man was subsequently arrested and is due to be questioned. The woman remains in hospital.

    Firefighters have saved the life of a cat that had got stuck in a river in Leicester.

    Crews were called to a bridge at the junction of Duns Lane and Western Boulevard just before 09:00 after the cat was spotted clinging to a branch in the water.

    The fire service's technical rescue team used a sled to get to the stricken cat, external and it has now been taken to a vet to receive treatment for the effects of hypothermia.
