Mark Graves was a Tory for 26 years in Broughton Astley but told the Local Democracy Reporter Service he's had a "number of disagreements recently" with the party, particularly over discrepancies with this year's council tax rates.

The party said Mr Graves should understand there can be variations in council tax settings as he was part of the process for years.

The chairman of the local group Neil Bannister refused to reveal why he had been deselected but said they were happy to discuss it with Mr Graves. He was not asked to leave the Conservatives, Mr Bannister added.

  17. Shopkeeper groomed girls before making sexual advancespublished at 15:34 BST 22 June 2018

    BBC News Online

Shopkeeper Dilan Amin would groom teenage girls and offer them drugs or alcohol before making sexual advances, Derby Crown Court heard.

Amin has been jailed for 12 years for sexual offences relating to five girls aged from 13 to 17. The court heard that the majority of abuse happened between 2012 and 2016 in or above The Famous Shop, which Amin ran in Pear Tree Road, Derby.

In one case Amin admitted having sex with a girl as young as 13, claiming it was consensual. Another girl shaved her head because of the shame it brought to the family, the court heard.

Det Insp Andy Jones, from Derbyshire Constabulary praised the bravery of all the girls involved in the case.

Judge Jonathan Bennett described Amin as a "dangerous offender".

The court heard how the Iraqi Kurdish immigrant came to Britain 10 years ago as a failed asylum seeker, but had never been granted leave to remain. After he has served his sentence it will be up to the Home Office whether he will be deported.

  19. Shopkeeper 'preyed' on girls then 'discarded them'published at 14:18 BST 22 June 2018

    BBC News

Shopkeeper Dilan Amin - who has been jailed for having sex with girls as young as 13 - was described by the judge as a "sexual predator".

In April he admitted four charges of sexual activity with a child with penetration, sexual assault of a child and sexual assault.

In September last year he was found guilty by a jury of three charges which were causing/inciting prostitution for gain, paying for sexual services of a girl between 13-15 years-old and the sexual assault of a child.

The judge who sentenced him at Derby Crown Court earlier said he was a sexual predator who "used the girls as objects before discarding them".

Derby charity Safe and Sound said it had been supporting Amin's victims throughout the case.

Senior crown prosecutor, Rebecca Edwards said Amin "exploited" the vulnerability of the girls and "manipulated them to do what he wanted".

She said the CPS's decision to pursue a retrial after the jury failed to return a verdict in Amin's first trial was made on the risk he posed to other children and young people.
