    The funeral of a D-Day veteran has been held today with a full guard of honour.

    Mourners gathered at Bramcote Crematorium this lunchtime to pay their respects to Ken Holmes, from Ilkeston, Derbyshire, who was awarded the Legion d'Honneur by the French government for his efforts in World War Two.

    Mr Holmes served in the Royal Navy from 1939 until 1945.

    His nephew, Stephen Darkins, said he would share many tales from his time in the armed forces.

    "One of his favourites was that he got torpedoed twice," he said.

    "Once was on Christmas Eve in 1942 when the ship sank on Christmas Day and he managed to get out.

    "He always said, 'I was torpedoed twice but never got my feet wet'."

    A motorcyclist is in hospital in a critical condition following a crash on the M1 last night.

    Leicestershire Police said the collision - involving a black BMW 1 series and a red Honda CBR motorbike - occurred at about 18:20 between junctions 23A and 23.

    The BMW driver was not injured, the force added.

    More than one million vaccines in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire have now been administered, the local clinical commissioning group (CCG) has said.

    As of Thursday, 1,042,531 doses have been handed out since the start of the roll-out, with 445,832 of these vaccines being second doses.

    The news comes as it was announced anyone eligible to receive a vaccination will be able to get one at the Mansfield Vaccination Centre - in the former Wickes shop on Chesterfield Road South - and the Forest Recreation Ground in Nottingham this weekend.

    Both the sites will be open from 08:00 to 16:00 on Saturday and Sunday, offering walk-in appointments for those eligible for their first dose.

    This includes anyone aged 25 and over as well as those who are clinically vulnerable and carers.

    A motorcyclist who died in a crash with a van on the A60 has been named by police.

    Nathan Ashworth was travelling along the road near Arnold at about 15:15 on Monday when the crash occurred.

    Nottinghamshire Police said the 27-year-old died at the scene, adding officers "are working hard to understand exactly what happened".

    Anyone with any information about the crash is asked to contact the force on 101.
