The funeral of a D-Day veteran has been held today with a full guard of honour.
Mourners gathered at Bramcote Crematorium this lunchtime to pay their respects to Ken Holmes, from Ilkeston, Derbyshire, who was awarded the Legion d'Honneur by the French government for his efforts in World War Two.
Mr Holmes served in the Royal Navy from 1939 until 1945.
His nephew, Stephen Darkins, said he would share many tales from his time in the armed forces.
"One of his favourites was that he got torpedoed twice," he said.
"Once was on Christmas Eve in 1942 when the ship sank on Christmas Day and he managed to get out.
"He always said, 'I was torpedoed twice but never got my feet wet'."
